Bryan Cranston—yeah, that legendary actor who morphed from the goofy dad in “Malcolm in the Middle” to the intense drug lord in “Breaking Bad”—just doesn’t know how to hit the brakes! This Hollywood icon, now strutting through life at 70, recently shared his thoughts on retirement (spoiler: he’s not interested!). With the stars aligning favorably for the zesty Leo—passion, creativity, and a relentless drive—Cranston’s career is anything but dim. His latest animated flick, “Tangles,” is making waves after debuting at Cannes, proving he’s as vibrant as ever. So grab your popcorn and maybe some cosmic luck, because it looks like Cranston is here to stay!
Bryan Cranston is one of Hollywood’s most revered names, thanks not only to his role as Walter White in AMC’s “Breaking Bad,” but also to the range he’s shown as an actor. Recently, the 70-year-old opened up about retirement, saying he has no plans to slow down when it comes to taking on new parts. His comments follow his latest film, “Tangles,” premiering at the Cannes Film Festival in May.

Cranston attended the annual art competition ArtPrize in October 2026 in Grand Rapids, Michigan. At the event, the “Breaking Bad” alum spoke to PEOPLE and responded to the idea of retirement after more than 40 years in the business.
He began, “For an actor living the life that I am very fortunate to have, I have no intention of stopping, and I think life will stop before I will want it to, and that will be great.” After that, Cranston compared the idea of ending his acting and writing career to necessary bodily functions, saying, “It’s like stopping breathing for me.”
The “Studio” actor continued, “What would I do? I’m not one that’s going to sit on the porch, just because I’m of that age,” before acknowledging that many people long for the day they can retire; however, he’s unsure how he “wouldn’t know what to do with it.”

Cranston continued his interview by recalling something he’s heard from someone else. According to him, “Someone once said, ‘When all is said and done, and it’s time for me to leave the earth, I want to be completely worn out,’ and I think that’s a good way to [go].”
Cranston continued, “I want to be absolutely completely worn out, like, I got nothing left.” Regarding what “completely worn out” means to him, he explained, “I did everything — I traveled, I experienced life — and I’m tired and I’m just absolutely done.”
He added, “I want to be able to be proud of the things that I’ve [accomplished].”

GQ interviewed Cranston in 2023. During the interview, he said he hoped to take a break from acting in 2026 and move to a small village in France with his wife, Robin Dearden.
According to Cranston, “For the last 24 years, Robin has led her life holding onto my tail. She’s been the plus one; she’s been the wife of a celebrity. She’s had to pivot and adjust her life based on mine. She has tremendous benefit from it, but we’re uneven. I want to level that out. She deserves it.”
He continued, “I want to have that experience. I want to go for day trips and have the fire in the fireplace and drink wine with new friends and not read scripts. It’s not going to be like, ‘Oh, I’ll read and see what I’m going to do.’ No, it’s a pause. It’s a stop. I won’t be thinking about [work]. I’m not going to be taking phone calls.”
Later, Cranston clarified his statements, saying he planned to take a year off after turning 70. He said, in part, on Instagram, “What I am going to do is hit the pause button for a year after I reach my 70th birthday in 2026. Holy crap – 70!”

Following its Cannes premiere, “Tangles” was also screened at the Toronto International Film Festival in September. After that, Variety reported that Independent Film Company and Sapan Studio acquired the North American rights to the movie, produced by Seth Rogen, Lauren Miller Rogen, and Julia-Louis-Dreyfus.
“Tangles” will be released in 2026 to allow for Oscar consideration before expanding to more screens in early 2027.

Cranston will return for the second season of Apple TV’s “The Studio.” No premiere date is confirmed yet, but it’s expected to arrive in early 2027. Additionally, he also appears in the upcoming film “Chili Finger,” which premieres at South by Southwest in March but currently has no release date.
