A royal commentator is facing intense backlash after appearing to defend former Prince Andrew despite his long-running controversies.
British journalist Judith Woods has garnered the ire of many online commenters after she made a case for Andrew’s mental health and revealed that some members of the royal family have continued to quietly check in on him.
The remarks didn’t sit well with many critics, who accused Woods of downplaying the seriousness of all the scandals. Meanwhile, Andrew remains sidelined from any royal engagements, with both King Charles III and Prince William keeping their distance.
Former Prince Andrew has seen his life dramatically unravel amid ongoing scrutiny over his ties to Jeffrey Epstein.
But after she published an article on The Telegraph making a case for public consideration of Andrew’s mental health, prominent royal author Woods has been drawing increased backlash on the internet.

According to insiders, William’s frustration dates back to Andrew’s widely criticized 2019 interview, in which he attempted to defend his relationship with Epstein.
Royal author Russell Myers told Us Weekly that the Prince of Wales had viewed the interview as a turning point.
“William was absolutely adamant after seeing that BBC ‘Newsnight’ interview with his uncle and the disastrous explanations that he gave for being friends with convicted sex offender Jeffrey Epstein,” Myers said. “Refusing to apologize for his relationship and refusing to acknowledge the actual trauma of Epstein victims was an absolute red line for William.”
