Collin spoke candidly about doing some soul-searching and research, challenging his siblings to seek their own truths amid the chaos. And oh, how fitting that the sun’s currently in Libra, a sign all about relationships and balance—maybe it’s time for those family scales to tip in favor of healing? Now that he’s an adult at 22, Collin’s reflecting on everything he was fed during his televised upbringing, urging everyone to question what they’ve been told. Let’s face it—growing up under the eye of cameras and critics can’t be easy, right? Especially when the façade crumbles and reality hits like a freight train.
So, as we sip our morning coffee and gaze at the stars, let’s sit up and take notice: there’s a whole lot more to Collin’s story than what we caught in those controlled scenes of “Jon & Kate Plus 8.” Buckle up for a wild ride into the complexities of growing up in the public eye.
Collin Gosselin is back in the spotlight after previously starring in his family’s reality show, “Jon & Kate Plus 8.” While promoting his new book, “In The Shadow of Eight,” where he details the alleged abuse he suffered at the hands of his mother, Collin shared an important message with his estranged siblings.
“I’m in this stage of my life now where I’m doing research,” Collin told E! News, adding that he’s “pulling up all this documentation of everything from the past.”
As he continued, Collin urged his siblings to do the same thing. “The information is out there, but you can’t always believe what you’ve been fed.”
Collin, 22, has seven siblings. He’s one of a set of sextuplets, along with Alexis, Aaden, Hannah, Leah, and Joel. He also has older twin siblings, Cara and Mady.
“Jon & Kate Plus 8” ran on Discovery and TLC for 10 years, producing 11 seasons and nearly 200 episodes.
Collin, who has spoken out against his mother, Kate, for the last several years, has condemned the show in the years following its conclusion.
In one interview, he said, “being in the public eye … tore [my family] apart,” adding that it took time away from them bonding as a unit.
But since separating from his mother, Collin said he’s grown a tremendous amount.
“I took what was spoon-fed to me by my mom for so long and ran with it,” he said. “You just believe everything your mom tells you. So that’s what I did. But as an adult, I’ve done a lot of research, and I would want them to know that.”
Collin’s comments come hours after his book, “In The Shadow of Eight,” was released. On Instagram, Collin shared that his book would take viewers behind the scenes as he opens up about the alleged abuse and mistreatment he suffered at the hands of his mother.
“For a long time, I wasn’t sure I’d ever tell this story,” he wrote on Instagram. “Growing up, millions of people watched my life on television. People felt like they knew me. They knew my family. They watched me grow up. But there was so much they never saw. For years, I kept those experiences to myself. Some because I was afraid. Some because I didn’t think anyone would believe me. And some because I just wasn’t ready.”
While difficult, Collin said writing his book forced him to be vulnerable in a new way by revisiting “some of the hardest moments of my life.”

In addition to writing about his mother’s alleged abuse, Collin also details his life as a child entertainer, telling readers that things weren’t as great as they may have seemed.
According to the 22-year-old, so many things happened behind the scenes that never saw the light of day. “So, everything that was seen, even if it was the ugly moments and viewers think it was quite bad, I mean imagine that to another level,” he shared.
Collin claimed everything “was polished” for the show, but shared a message with viewers about reality TV. “And I just want people to keep in mind, especially when it comes to children, a lot of what we’re seeing, it’s not real. It is reality, but it is not real,” he said.

Now that the book is out, Collin understands it could further hinder his efforts to reconnect with his siblings. However, he called the process “therapeutic” and implied he would do it again if given the chance.
“I was scared to do so, and very nervous because you’re always nervous. You’re telling the story of a life you’ve lived and how people react, and will they see me as damaged or broken?” he said. Despite that, Collin called it the most “liberating and freeing thing I’ve ever done.”
