It’s that exciting time of year when the best of the television season is officially recognized for awards acclaim. The main event will take place later this year, on September 14, and will be broadcast live on NBC and streamed on Peacock. But first, the waiting is over: the full list of nominees has just been announced by The Bear’s Liza Colón-Zayas and Widow’s Bay’s Jeff Hiller.

Amazingly, HBO’s fan-favorite medical drama, The Pitt, picked up 25 nominations. At the same time, the final season of Hacks snagged 24 nods for its fifth and final season, setting a new record for the most nominations in one year for the comedy genre. Apple TV’s Pluribus is making waves with 18 nominations in the drama category, with the streamer’s Your Friends and Neighbors also being recognized in the Best Drama Series category.

This year’s list is a significant boon for HBO Max, Netflix, and Apple, with many of their top-rated shows recognized as fan favorites. HBO Max amassed a staggering 122 nominations, Netflix snagged 111, and Apple took a bite out of 87 television nominations. Before announcing the final list of nominees, analysts expected Netflix to take the nomination crown, but HBO Max came in swinging, besting its competitor by 10 nominations.

In other nomination counts, Disney scores 111 nominations, with ABC picking up 40. FX managed 23 noms, with Hulu getting 22, Disney+ taking 14 (down by half from last year’s 28), and National Geographic spotting 12 nods. Amazon landed 28 nominations for Prime Video content, while MGM+ scored 11 nominations for Spider-Noir. Unfortunately for Paramount+, it received only 1 nomination, while Peacock showed its plumage with 18.

If this year’s Emmy nominations have taught me anything, it’s that I’m grossly out of touch with what people are watching and what the industry deems as popular or awards-worthy.
