It begs the question: does the unique energy of a family of stars shape their paths? As we explore their journey and connections, we’ll uncover not just Emma’s iconic career but also her daughter’s rising stardom. So if you’ve come across the name Gaia Wise in a movie credit or two, now you know exactly who her powerhouse parents are. Curious to dive deeper? Click here to LEARN MORE.

Celebrated actor Emma Thompson has a daughter who followed her into the performing profession, but you probably haven’t realised the familial connection because she acts with her father’s surname.

Then again, her dad’s also an actor so it would be rather difficult for her not to share a name with either of them.

Emma Thompson is married to Greg Wise, they actually both appeared together in Sense and Sensibility with them getting into a relationship while they were on set together.

Over 30 years later they’re still going and their daughter Gaia was born in 1999, so if you’ve seen the name Gaia Wise in the credits now you know who her parents are.

TV fans who watch All Creatures Great and Small will recognise her as Charlotte Beauvoir, while she was also in the recent Sebastian Reuter/Getty Images movie War of the Rohirrim where she played the protagonist Héra.

Gaia has also played her actual mother’s on-screen daughter as well, during the 2015 film A Walk in the Woods, while she played a younger version of her mum’s character Barb in the film Dead of Winter.

If you are going to pick someone to play a younger version of a character and they’ve got a child who acts then it’s a really handy option for the casting team.

Now if you’re ever watching something she’s in and start wondering why she reminds you of Emma Thompson you know the answer, or if you happen to be watching Dead of Winter and marvelling at how like the Nanny McPhee star the younger version of Barb looks.

Fortunately for Gaia when Emma got a call in 1998 from a potential suitor who might want to tear her away from Greg things didn’t work out between them.

Fortunate for Emma as well, because this guy who asked her out was none other than Donald Trump.

The call came on the day her divorce to Kenneth Branagh went through, so she reckoned Trump had ‘got people looking for suitable people he could take out on his arm’.

“He found the number in my trailer. I mean, that’s stalking,” she joked before voicing what she thought the proposed dinner date could’ve led to.

“I could have gone on a date with Donald Trump, and then I would have a story to tell. I could have changed the course of American history.”

It would have been her most challenging role, having to play the part of someone who must act as though they like being in his company.

That could have been Emma Thompson as first lady, grinning grimly and deploying every trick in the book to keep as much distance as possible.

While some actors are happy for their kids to follow them into the field others aren’t so enthusiastic about it, Eddie Murphy has 10 kids but if any of them want to act then it’s a big ‘nuh-uh’ from dad until they turn 18 at least.
