Fans were pleasantly surprised to see the late Eric Dane feature in the second trailer for Euphoria season three.

It has been over four years since the final episode of the show’s second season aired on HBO and viewers have been eagerly awaiting the third (and likely final) season of the teen drama.

Many have been waiting to find out about the fates of Cassie, Rue, Maddy and more in the Euphoria world – and it looks like it’s finally time.

The first trailer for this long awaited season was released in January, revealing that the likes of Zendaya, Jacob Elordi and Sydney Sweeney will be returning.

Some notable faces were missing, but fans were pleasantly to see them in the second trailer, released today (30 March).

Dane was part of this trailer and while he only pops up for a couple of seconds, his interaction with Hunter Schafer’s character has hit home with TV fans.

The actor died aged 53 in February, as his family released a heartfelt statement.

They said of the Grey’s Anatomy star: “With heavy hearts, we share that Eric Dane passed on Thursday afternoon following a courageous battle with ALS.

“He spent his final days surrounded by dear friends, his devoted wife, and his two beautiful daughters, Billie and Georgia, who were the center of his world.”

They said that he became an advocate for research into the disease, and that he is ‘forever grateful’ for the support he received.

The late actor also spoke out about amyotrophic lateral sclerosis (ALS) before his death, leading many to believe that he may not feature in the third season of Euphoria.

But upon seeing his character, Cal Jacobs, one fan said on X that they ‘didn’t expect Eric Dane’, while another posted a crying GIF in a repost of the trailer.

A third fan screenshotted the character’s line in the trailer, as Jules (Schafer) asks his character: “Remember me?”

To which Dane’s character replies: “How could I forget?”

They then wrote in the caption: “Eric Dane we won’t ever forget you either,” with a sad emoji.

The actor had spoken about filming scenes for the show prior to his passing, as a January press release also revealed that he was a series regular.

Following the news of his death, HBO released a statement which read: “We are deeply saddened by the news of Eric Dane’s passing. He was incredibly talented and HBO was fortunate to have worked with him on three seasons of Euphoria,

“Our thoughts are with his loved ones during this difficult time.”
