For more than a decade, “American Horror Story” has brought audiences a fresh collection of nightmares with each new season. Now, the anthology is set to continue with Season 14. Creator Ryan Murphy has hinted at another possibility: an international version. While the next season’s theme remains unconfirmed, his comment has opened the door to intriguing possibilities for the horror series.
“American Horror Story” Season 13 premiered on September 24, with its final episode scheduled to air on October 29. Although the season has yet to conclude, FX announced the anthology series’ renewal a week before the finale.
According to Deadline, the renewal is the first for the series in nearly seven years. In early 2020, FX renewed the show for three seasons (11, 12, and 13), prompting speculation that the show would end with its 13th season. However, the latest news proved otherwise.
“American Horror Story” has received more than 100 nominations and earned 17 Emmy Awards since the first season’s premiere in 2011. Jessica Lange, who returned for the current season, won two Emmys (Outstanding Supporting Actress and Outstanding Lead Actress).
“AHS” Season 13 brings back familiar roles from different seasons, with several actors playing multiple characters. The all-star crossover and blended storylines are a massive feat, and it’s not something creator Ryan Murphy would want to recreate in the future.
Before the season premiere, Murphy was asked whether the same concept would carry over into future seasons. “Never! Never, no, no. I don’t think it would ever happen again,” he told The Hollywood Reporter.
He clarified, however, that he would love to continue working with the actors and revisit some of their characters, just not at the same scale as Season 13.

Across 13 seasons, “American Horror Story” has explored a variety of characters and settings, from a murder house and an asylum to a witch coven and a circus. Despite each season’s distinct premise, the anthology revisits recurring themes such as trauma, revenge, dysfunctional relationships, power, and oppression.
Murphy is considering expanding the series further. “I really want this show to go international. I’m interested in: what is an international version of ‘Horror Story’,” he said, adding that it’s something he’s exploring.
However, he hasn’t confirmed whether the upcoming season will reflect that idea. “I don’t know. I just like branching out,” he noted.

After more than a decade of working on the series, Murphy is not ready to throw in the towel, and has even gone further to say that he wants to do the show “forever.” Previously, Murphy shared that FX chairman John Landgraf is also passionate about the show.
“It’s a very important show in my career. It’s something that John said, ‘As long as you want to keep making them, I’ll keep airing them.’ That’s always been the idea behind it, which is very empowering,” Murphy said.
“AHS” Season 13 marks a notable chapter for the series, bringing back several fan-favorite characters in celebration of the anthology’s history. However, viewers and long-time fans responded with mixed reactions.
Some criticized the season’s overlapping characters and callbacks to previous installments, arguing that they made the plot feel disjointed and confusing. Others felt the star-studded ensemble was underutilized, with some comparing Season 13 unfavorably to earlier seasons that are generally regarded as the best ones.
Others, meanwhile, praised the high production value and the ensemble cast’s performances.
Despite some negative reception, “AHS 13” had a historic premiere, with about 4 million streams in its first four days.
The 13th and final episode of Season 13 airs October 29 on FX and Hulu.
