Country singer Luke Bryan is being slammed by social media users for appearing to be using his phone while driving. The backlash comes just days after his son, Thomas “Bo” Boyer Bryan, suffered a broken collarbone while playing football in Tennessee.

Luke Bryan Appears To Record Social Media Content With His Family While Driving

In a clip shared on Instagram on October 19, Luke can be seen in a car with his son, Bo, and his wife, Caroline Bryan.

He holds the camera up to his son, whose arm is wrapped in a sling, and then flashes it back to himself and his wife. “Going for surgery,” he says.

In the reflection of his sunglasses, users can see Luke using one hand to record himself and his family while the other hand stays on the steering wheel of his truck.

Although the clip is less than 15 seconds long, it still sparked a strong reaction on social media, with some users calling the singer out for appearing to make dangerous moves while driving.

Beyond the family video, netizens also voiced frustration that Luke and his wife, Caroline, appeared to be driving without seatbelts.

“Come on, no seatbelt and recording while you’re driving,” someone wrote. “Please be safe.” Another user added, “Why doesn’t anyone have seatbelts on?”

A third user shared a similar response and condemned the “Country Girl Shake It” singer for the same thing, writing, “No seatbelts????”

“LUKE!!! You buckle up your family,” said another.

The criticism comes days after Luke’s son, Bo, suffered a broken collarbone during a high school football game in Tennessee.

The Tennessean reported that the 18-year-old hit the ground during a play and landed on his right shoulder. Medics and the team’s trainers sat the athlete for the rest of the game, keeping his arm wrapped in a sling.

“Thank you, everyone, for your thoughts and prayers. We will be back,” Bo wrote on his Instagram Stories, according to USA Today.

Bo spoke with the media after the game and said the injury happened when two players fell on him after he was sacked.

“I thought it was just a stinger when I hit the ground,” he said. “Once I got up, I knew something was wrong. When I got to the sideline, I really knew something was wrong.”

Luke Hopes His Son’s Hard Work Pays Off

Luke has two children with his wife, Caroline: Bo and Tatum “Tate” Christoper Bryan.

Earlier this year, the country hitmaker spoke with USA Today High School Sports about Bo’s high school career and said he was thoroughly “impressed” with his son’s skills.

“This senior year, he’s learning as he goes,” he said. “Everything that happens to him … this year is the first time he’s had all these pressure situations and ups and downs.”

Luke continued, “You see the hard work he puts in, and you just want the hard work to pay off. Nights like tonight is when you get to celebrate that. The main thing is to see his hard work and his commitment and his love for the game. I’m just so proud of him.”

Luke Has Been In The Hot Seat Before

The recent backlash over whether Luke was distracted while driving isn’t the first time the singer has found himself in the hot seat.

In 2024, Luke was in the spotlight after fans believed he threw shade at Beyoncé after she was snubbed at the Country Music Awards.

“It’s a tricky question because, obviously, Beyoncé made a country album and Beyoncé has a lot of fans out there that have her back. And if she doesn’t get something they want, man, they come at you,” he said at the time. “I’m all for everybody coming in and making country albums and all that. But just by declaring that, just because she made one. I don’t need [a nomination], just ’cause I make one.”

He attempted to clarify his position days later with a new post, according to The Blast, and called out the “ridiculous nature of the headlines.”

“I feel in my heart I could not let media create a false narrative,” he said. “As I read thru the comments of some of you I just want to say that I encourage all of you to listen to the interview instead of reading clickbait headlines. You will hear my tone and intentions, which were not negative.”

The singer finished by saying he respected Beyoncé and he loves “how loyal her fans are.”
