In the cosmic dance of politics, Arizona stands as the stage where the legacy of Charlie Kirk is being tested. With Mercury retrograde possibly lending its mischievous energy to the tension, the struggle to unseat Democratic Governor Katie Hobbs seems to be more than just a political endeavor—it’s an emotional odyssey for Kirk’s widow, Erika. Picture this: backed by a mountain of cash and a bustling volunteer army, Erika is trying to channel her late husband’s conservative dreams into reality. But in this celestial gameplay, the outcome remains uncertain, with whispers of doubt echoing through the halls of Turning Point USA. If Kirk’s ambitious vision falters, will Erika emerge victorious or find herself under a cloud of scrutiny? Buckle up, because this political drama is shaping up to be a riveting spectacle!
Turning Point USA has made Arizona the proving ground for Charlie Kirk’s political legacy, but defeating Democratic Governor Katie Hobbs is proving difficult.
His widow, Erika, has committed the organization to the fight, backed by millions of dollars and an expanding volunteer operation.
Yet insiders acknowledge the race remains challenging, leaving Erika’s leadership vulnerable to scrutiny if Kirk’s most personal political ambition falls short.

Arizona mattered to Charlie Kirk because it housed Turning Point USA’s headquarters and was where he planned to raise his children.
Endorsing Andy Biggs for governor in May 2025, Kirk declared, “This state is home, this is the state where I am raising my kids.”
He wanted Arizona to become the “new Florida,” promising, “We’re going to make it more conservative, more freedom, lower taxes and no humidity!”
Biggs, Kirk’s friend, won the Republican primary by 60 points after receiving Donald Trump’s endorsement. However, Republicans have struggled to reclaim the governor’s office since Kari Lake lost in 2022, followed by her 2024 Senate defeat to Democrat Ruben Gallego.
After Kirk’s assassination, Erika recommitted Turning Point to the Arizona campaign, urging TPUSA Action, led by Tyler Bowyer, to commit the resources necessary to defeat Hobbs.
One insider captured the emotional burden facing the organization, telling the Daily Mail, “I think our team feels the pressure of wanting to make Charlie proud and to do something special in the wake of his assassination, but also understanding that this is a tough, political environment.”

Hobbs had spent $17 million compared with Biggs’ $5 million, while the Democratic Governors Association invested another $10 million.
The Republican Governors Association spent nothing on the race, leaving Turning Point’s political action committee to pour in $18.2 million.
A poll of 1,513 likely voters conducted October 3-6 showed Hobbs leading by 5.7 points. Democrats warned supporters that the “far-right group” was spending millions to defeat her. One fundraising email declared, “Turning Point is trying to buy this race.”
A TPUSA spokesperson described Hobbs’ campaign as “panicking,” arguing that Republican early-vote returns had changed the contest. “She thought she had this in the bag, but now it’s a jump ball,” the spokesperson told the outlet.
Privately, however, Republicans remained concerned. A Trump-world official conceded the numbers were not looking good, while one strategist warned, “It’s very hard to unseat an incumbent governor. It almost never happens.”

The financial commitment has made defeat especially costly for Turning Point’s reputation. “The problem with Turning Point is that they have spent so much money, they essentially own the results of this race,” one Republican strategist told the Daily Mail.
A source familiar with the organization’s internal dynamics also warned that losing could energize Erika’s critics, including former employee and controversial podcaster Candace Owens.
Turning Point insists its ambitions extend beyond this election. Charlie Kirk had directed the group to build a political operation focused on chasing ballots and mobilizing infrequent voters.
After Trump narrowly lost Arizona to Joe Biden in 2020, he won the state by six points in 2024. The organization has endorsed Vice President JD Vance for president in 2028 should he run, while building operations in New Hampshire and Nevada.
“Statistically, if you lose Arizona as a Republican, you’re in a really bad spot,” one Turning Point source noted, while another official defended the long-term strategy, stating, “Win, lose, or draw, this puts us in the best position for 2028.”

Questions about Erika’s authority at Turning Point USA went beyond campaign results when Candace Owens challenged the audio presented as evidence that Charlie Kirk wanted his wife to succeed him.
As The Blast reported in May, Owens alleged that the recording could have been manipulated using artificial intelligence.
Owens questioned the audio’s delivery, arguing that its wording and cadence differed from Charlie’s usual speaking style. “It just doesn’t flow when you hear it. And it’s also remarkably formal,” she said.
She also cited claims that Turning Point USA had experimented with synthetic voice technology for internal presentations, donor events and organizational materials.
Owens demanded an explanation from the organization, asking, “We would like a response on this. Are the donors lying? A simple yes or no would do as a starting place.”
The audio had been played at a TPUSA event as the organization sought to reassure supporters about Erika’s succession. The board had announced her appointment as CEO and chair, saying, “Charlie prepared all of us for a moment like this one.”

Megyn Kelly offered a different challenge to Erika’s position, urging her to step away from Turning Point USA so she could concentrate on grieving Charlie Kirk and caring for their children.
Speaking to Piers Morgan on “Piers Morgan Uncensored” last month, Kelly said, per The Blast, “I personally would like to see her take some personal time.”
Kelly wanted Erika to withdraw from the relentless demands of running a major political organization.
She said she hoped the widow would “remove herself from the nonstop battering ram that is heading up a political organization in the United States of America and allow herself a year to just work on healing.”
Kelly also rejected conspiracy theories implicating Erika in her husband’s killing, calling them “nonsense.”
She said, “The overwhelming suffering has been caused by Charlie’s murder and not by the internet nonsense, but that’s been an added burden on her. There’s no question, I don’t like it.”
