If you’re a heterosexual woman who knows the horrors of dating straight men, you’ve probably had moments when you’ve thought to yourself, Life would be so much easier if I were into women. Well, according to Victoria Monét, dating other women isn’t that much easier. In fact, she said she finds it “worse.”
For context, Victoria has been single for the past 2.5 years since splitting from her long-term partner, John Gaines, with whom she shares a 5-year-old daughter, Hazel.
“The girls do me dirty,” she said, prompting Angie to say she always imagined it would be “easier” for women to have romantic relationships with other women. “Worse,” Victoria replied, “my experiences are a little bit worse.”
At this, Angie playfully suggested that it was “bad picking” on Victoria’s part, which prompted the Grammy winner to divulge more about her tricky past experiences.
“Maybe it’s that, but also girls, they don’t really approach me seriously. They approach me, like, sensually,” Victoria explained. “I’m like, ‘Well, I would want it to be something more serious.’ And I haven’t really gotten that approach from many women. They’re just like, ‘Oh, she’s beautiful. She’s attractive,’ or talking about my body and stuff. It’s like a sexual thing. Maybe they don’t take me seriously.”
As for her next relationship, Victoria said she’s looking for masculine energy, no matter the person’s gender.
“I’ve been in a space that, because I’m feeling so feminine, like I want the opposite energy,” she said. “Maybe it’s a masculine woman. I’m not sure, I’ve never really tried that. The women that I’ve dated have been… a little bit femme, or a little bit more in the middle, or more femme than masculine.”
