According to Deadline, Jimmy Tatro (Scream 7) is in talks to join DC Studios’ upcoming Superman spinoff series centering on Daily Planet photographer Jimmy Olsen and the infamous primate supervillain Gorilla Grodd. Skyler Gisondo is already set to reprise his role as Olsen, while Tatro is reportedly eyed to play Grodd.

Superman Spinoff Series

While the series has not yet received an official greenlight, it is being billed as a true-crime docuseries hosted by Olsen, with the first season focusing entirely on Grodd. American Vandal creators Dan Perrault and Tony Yacenda are attached to write, executive produce, and showrun the project, which currently holds the working title DC Crime.

Tatro has a history with the creative duo; he famously starred in the breakout first season of Netflix’s American Vandal as Dylan Maxwell, the high schooler accused of vandalizing 27 cars with crude drawings.

Last month, DC Studios co-CEO James Gunn clarified the project’s unique premise on social media, explaining that the series is “both a Jimmy Olsen AND a Gorilla Grodd show.” Gunn called it one of his favourite upcoming projects and noted that filming should begin soon. He also shut down rumours that the concept shifted over time.

It didn’t become anything,” Gunn clarified. “It is what it’s always been, including pitching it as part of the package before I even started at DC.

Man of Tomorrow

Gunn is currently in production on Man of Tomorrow, with much of the DCU gang reuniting for the Superman sequel.

While speaking on the Howard Stern Show last year, Gunn dropped a few story details. “It’s a story about Lex Luthor and Superman having to work together to a certain degree against a much, much bigger threat,” he said. “It’s more complicated than that but. It’s as much a Lex movie as it is a Superman movie. I relate to the character of Lex, sadly. I really wanted to create something extraordinary with the two of them. I just love the script so much.” That threat is believed to be Brainiac, with Lars Eidinger playing the role.

Man of Tomorrow is slated to hit theaters on July 9, 2027.
