Prince William is said to be seeking further action against Prince Harry and Meghan Markle after his father, King Charles III, clarified that the couple remains non-working royals in a letter.
Not too long ago, Harry and Meghan, as well as senior government and military officials, received a letter describing the Sussexes’ position after they recently returned to the royal homeland in August.
An Insider has now alleged that Prince William was “instrumental” in the message being sent out, and he’s now focused on taking away their royal titles.
According to Closer Magazine, an insider claimed that the Prince of Wales played a part in the king’s letter after officials asked for clarification about Harry and Meghan’s position, and he is now gunning for their titles.
“William was very instrumental in getting that letter out; he’s taking it as a big win,” the source said, adding that the success has given the future king hope that his father was starting to be “seeing this more clearly.”
The insider alleged that William intends to relentlessly push to have the king strip the couple of their titles as the Duke and Duchess of Sussex, which the late Queen Elizabeth gave to them.
“William is not going to stop pushing until the King agrees to take away their titles,” the insider told the outlet, noting that constantly raising the issue with Charles is causing tension between father and son, but “it’s worth it to William.”
Harry and Meghan stepped back from their roles as working members of the royal family in 2020, but they have continued to retain their dukedom following their exit, which reportedly doesn’t make sense to William.
The king’s guidance released earlier this month did not take away Harry and Meghan’s titles; it instead reaffirmed that, “there is no change to the current status of the Duke and Duchess of Sussex.”
People Magazine reported that the correspondence issued by the Lord Chamberlain Richard Benyon on the king’s instruction was sent out “to help avoid doubt or confusion” after numerous requests wanting clarity.
The letter reiterated that Harry and Meghan “are no longer working members of the royal family” and while their His and Her Royal Highness titles “remain in Abeyance,” they remained the Duke and Duchess of Sussex.
Their position was stated to be similar to that of “private citizens with commercial and charitable interests,” and any works of charity they undertake are to be perceived as a “personal matter undertaken in their private capacity.”
The designation as private citizens was reportedly a blow to the Sussexes, who see themselves as public figures, but William reportedly doesn’t think this clarification of position is quite enough.
The Prince of Wales allegedly wants their titles stripped in part because they have reportedly made millions from those titles despite not being working royals and doing everything “on their own terms.”
According to the Closer source, William is particularly furious because, “He thinks it’s egregious that they can make all this money off their royal status after everything they’ve said about the family.”
For the future king, the Sussexes “want to have their cake and eat it too, and his father is just standing back allowing it to happen.”

Harry and Meghan being relieved of their titles as the Duke and Duchess of Sussex wouldn’t be the first time a British royal has been stripped of their royal styles in recent memory.
According to The Guardian, Andrew Mountbatten Windsor had his HRH style and prince title removed following controversy over his links to Jeffrey Epstein, the notorious child sex offender.
Charles declared that, “Andrew Mountbatten Windsor shall no longer be entitled to hold and enjoy the style, title or attribute of ‘royal highness’ and the titular dignity of ‘prince.’”
William reportedly pushed his father for years to have his uncle stripped of those royal privileges, and he finally got his way.
As per the Closer insider, William wants to work the same magic and plans to “work on his father every day if needed,” in order to successfully strip his estranged brother and sister-in-law of their royal titles.
Reports on William’s push to get Harry and Meghan’s titles stripped come after it was revealed that he felt “horrified” by news of the duke’s plans to make a project about their late mother, Princess Diana, with Meghan being involved somehow.
The Diana claim came from Daily Mail’s Editor-at-large, Richard Kay, who said, “I am told that one of the reasons Harry’s here is to make a television film, his own film, about his mother… That’s going to occupy a lot of his headspace over the next 12 months.”
A source who spoke to Heatworld shared that William did not like the idea of a Diana project by the couple: “Hearing that Harry and Meghan [Markle] are hijacking this tribute to his late mother, and on U.K. soil, no less, has sent him around the bend.”
Since Harry’s UK return, there have been rumors of a possible reconciliation between Harry and William; however, things seem to have worsened since the Sussexes’ UK return.
