Following his successful trip to his home country earlier this month, Prince Harry is said to be “desperate” to return to the UK in an effort to reunite with the remaining royals.
However, his wife Meghan Markle is reportedly not too keen about a UK return and wants them to maintain their “all-American” lifestyle.
It comes amid reports Prince Harry is doing all he can to mend broken ties with his family, with a royal expert saying there may be a way back in, but it’ll have to be without the Duchess of Sussex.
Reports of growing friction in the Sussex household have surfaced following claims that Harry is “desperate” to mend the broken relationship with the rest of the royal family and return to the UK, leaving his wife, Meghan, “furious.”
The claims were made by royal commentator and TalkTV pundit Kevin O’Sullivan while speaking on Sky News Australia with host Danica De Giorgio.
O’Sullivan went in heavy on the Duke of Sussex, slamming him for being eager to spend more time in his home country and re-establish ties with his family despite dropping dirt on the monarchy with several shocking allegations in his memoir and interviews.
“There’s no forgive and forget after what Harry has done. Harry is naive, immature and not very bright. He believes, in the dimness of his mind, of his intellectually challenged mind, that he can surmount all of these problems and they can reforge the lives they once enjoyed,” the royal commentator said, per The Express.
“Remember, he and Meghan in fact [wanted] that half-in, half-out royal lifestyle, in other words coming to Britain, doing a few royal functions, opening a few libraries, cutting a few ribbons – and then going back to America to earn money,” he continued.
The path back to how things were before 2020, when he and Meghan ditched their royal roles to relocate abroad, somewhat seems fraught.
Although Harry, Meghan, and their children managed to secure a private audience with King Charles and Queen Camilla at Highgrove House earlier this month, reports indicate that other senior members of the royal family harbor little to no interest in meeting with the Sussexes.
“Harry is obsessed with getting that halfway house. The King, softhearted soul who just wanted to see his grandchildren, Archie and Lilibet, I think he probably would go along with some kind of arrangement allowing them to go to and fro between the two countries,” O’Sullivan said.
“William – who by the way is basically in charge of the Royal Family, it’s not the King, it’s William – no way. Camilla doesn’t want it, Anne doesn’t want it, Edward doesn’t want it. None of them want it,” he alleged.
“The only place where this reunion is based in some kind of reality is in the fevered, mixed-up mind of Harry. It’s what he desperately wants, because he’s come to realize his American life is a disaster,” the commentator added.
Meanwhile, the reported push to regain a foothold in Britain is said to be creating serious friction behind closed doors at their Montecito mansion.
According to O’Sullivan, the Duke and Duchess are not on the same page about his purported reunion, as Meghan wants to stay put in America and continue their “all-American” lifestyle.
O’Sullivan claims Harry is “obsessed” about their public approval as polls show they’ve fallen out of favor with Americans, which is much the same across the pond.
“So he’s obsessed with trying to get back some of the life he used to enjoy. Meanwhile, Meghan isn’t at all keen on his half-in, half-out plan either,” he explained.
“He wants to spend more and more time in Britain […] she doesn’t want that. She sees their future as an all-American dream; she doesn’t want to go back to Britain. That is causing serious friction,” he added.
O’Sullivan’s claims echo those of royal columnist Maureen Callahan, who also spoke with De Giorgio in a recent Sky News chat, explaining that Meghan isn’t looking to return to the UK as she’s “so loathed” there and knows it.
“The Nerve with Maureen Callahan” host then alluded to reports of cracks in their marriage, citing sources who said that when Harry “was madly in love” with her, he was happy to let her take the lead, but now, “the veil has been lifted,” per the Daily Mail.
Callahan went further to recount reports of their alleged financial woes, which have now been worsened by Harry’s lost lawsuit against Associated Newspapers Limited.
She said he doesn’t have much of an option but to reunite with the royal family, adding that whispers behind Buckingham Palace walls suggest there may be a way, but “it would be without” Meghan.
After the private Highgrove meeting with King Charles, royal expert Angela Levin shared that insiders described the reunion as an absolute disaster for the California-based couple because none of their conditions were met.
Levin noted that the meeting “was a mess,” highlighting that the monarch adamantly required Queen Camilla’s presence, as she remains highly protective over how others speak to the monarch, particularly Prince Harry.
According to the expert, the Duke and Duchess were blocked from setting the agenda, explaining that “the two of them could not do what they wanted.”
She asserted that despite Prince Harry submitting a detailed list of demands, “they didn’t get a thing,” leaving her to conclude that the couple “must have absolutely hated it” due to the allegedly rigid and chilly atmosphere.
