Stick around as we unravel the latest chapters of Harry’s tumultuous saga!
Prince Harry‘s rumored financial woes have reportedly been compounded following a major court loss against the Daily Mail publisher.
The Duke of Sussex suffered the legal blow during his recent trip to the UK after a judge dismissed his allegations of unlawful information gathering.
Now, Prince Harry and his co-claimants have been left facing a hefty legal bill, with the overall cost of the case estimated at about $50M.

Harry has been left with a massive legal bill after losing his case against Associated Newspapers Limited, the publisher of the UK’s Daily Mail newspaper.
The British royal, alongside a seven-member group that included music icon Sir Elton John, accused the publisher of orchestrating covert operations such as hiring private detectives to bug vehicles and deceptively accessing private records.
Harry in particular alleged that 14 articles published about him by ANL made use of illegally obtained information. The publishing company strongly rejected the claims during the trial, and the court ultimately ruled in their favor, throwing out every lawsuit brought by the duke and his co-claimants.
In a sharp critique of the case, Judge Matthew Nicklin noted that “suspicion, even understandable suspicion, is not proof,” and concluded that the published stories could have easily come from legitimate sources.
The extensive legal battle has been brewing since 2022 and has accumulated roughly $50 million in total costs. As a result, Harry and his co-claimants are now staring down a potentially devastating legal bill.

This legal defeat hits at a challenging time for Harry and his wife, Meghan Markle, who are already facing multiple reports of financial strain due to their limited income streams and the massive upkeep costs of their Montecito mansion.
With Harry now focusing on his charity and philanthropy, Meghan is said to have stepped up as the “breadwinner” for the family. However, her entrepreneurial ambitions are moving at a slower pace, as her lifestyle venture, As Ever, has only rolled out a small catalog that offers just 15 product iterations to consumers.
This now leaves Harry in need of help, with a legal source telling Page Six that the people who funded the case might cover the bill, or the duke would need to rely on his co-claimant, Sir Elton John.
“The people funding the case will likely help Harry with costs,” an insider close to the litigation said. Harry and his co-claimants reportedly received significant financial backing for their case research from the estate of late Formula 1 executive Max Mosley and the campaign group Hacked Off, which has previously faced criticism for allegedly trying to undermine the freedom of the press.
“Elton John could also well help Harry out,” the legal source added, noting that the singer and Harry are “extremely close.”
“Harry definitely doesn’t have the money for it,” another source told the news outlet, adding that Meghan will “likely be very furious about the fees. She did not want him to [pursue the case].”

Harry obviously did not take too kindly to his legal loss. Shortly after Judge Nicklin dismissed his case, he released a statement condemning the decision as a total “whitewash.”
The duke said that he “came to court seeking justice and accountability” but ended up receiving “neither.”
“It is a complete and obvious whitewash, but sadly not altogether unexpected. The lengths to which the court has gone to exonerate the Mail is as shocking as it is totally unwarranted,” Harry’s statement continued.
He added, “When the court says there is not sufficient evidence of wrongdoing, despite the documents showing otherwise, then one does wonder how justice was ever going to be achieved.”

After their legal win, ANL branded the court’s decision an “overwhelming victory,” with the publisher’s editor-in-chief, Paul Dacre, taking a direct dig at Harry by bringing up his rift with the royal family.
Dacre said there is not “a laundry in the cosmos big enough to wash all the dirty linen he has aired about his own family.”
He then noted that he feels “sorry for the way a confused and angry young man has been drawn into this case.”
“The truth is that this trumped-up action — which has cost well over £50m and wasted a huge amount of valuable Court time — should never have been brought to trial,” Dacre added per Yahoo Entertainment.

Harry and Meghan, along with their kids, Prince Archie and Princess Lilibet, are currently in the UK, where they are said to have had a private meeting with King Charles and Queen Camilla.
However, before the trip, their first as a family in four years, Harry has reportedly been having candid, but rare, conversations with his father about his financial situation.
An insider noted that the duke is “no longer trying to put a brave face on the challenges he and Meghan are dealing with behind the scenes.”
Speaking to OK! Magazine, the source revealed that Harry has “been honest about the financial strain that comes with maintaining their charitable projects, funding a large security operation, supporting their business ventures, and sustaining the lifestyle they have built in California.”
According to the insider, Harry feels he cannot “continue carrying that burden alone forever” and simply wants the king to realize how taxing their situation has truly become.
