Last month, it was revealed that Osgood Perkins and Nicolas Cage would be teaming up once again for Longlegs 2, and Paramount Pictures has already slated the film for a January 14, 2028 release.
The plot of Longlegs 2 is being kept under wraps; however, Paramount’s press release stated that the film will not be a sequel, but will be set in the Longlegs universe. Many believe a prequel is most likely, but I suppose anything is possible.
Directed and written by Osgood Perkins (I Am the Pretty Thing That Lives in the House), Longlegs stars Maika Monroe (It Follows) as FBI Agent Lee Harker, “a gifted new recruit assigned to the unsolved case of an elusive serial killer (Nicolas Cage). As the case takes complex turns, unearthing evidence of the occult, Harker discovers a personal connection to the merciless killer and must race against time to stop him before he claims the lives of another innocent family.” The rest of the cast includes Alicia Witt (Urban Legend), Blair Underwood (LA Law), and Kiernan Shipka (Mad Men). Cage gave one hell of a performance as the titular character, all while prosthetics rendered him nearly unrecognizable.
The first film was distributed by Neon, but Paramount has acquired the rights for the sequel.
Although I’m game to return to this world… I’m left wondering…is it needed? I feel the same way about the Weapons prequel focusing on Aunt Gladys, but I’d love to be proven wrong.
The first film was a big success, grossing over $128 million with a production budget of just $10 million. The marketing campaign was also highly effective, keeping Cage’s character under wraps, making audiences even more curious.

Rather than knock you over the head with moments designed to make you jump, the movie slowly builds a sense of dread, which becomes incredibly potent as it comes to its horrifying conclusion,” he wrote. “Once the credits rolled, I found myself surprisingly shaken up by what I’d just seen… Will it be considered a new classic?
