Lil Wayne and Craig Carton have been having a blast on their podcast The Joint Venture, on which they celebrated Wayne’s son, Dwayne Carter III. He got a D1 scholarship offer from the University of Colorado Boulder to be a kicker for their football team back in June. Weezy spoke to Carton about his pride, getting the offer from the legendary coach Deion Sanders, and about a beloved and lauded NFL Hall of Famer training him for his football future. Wayne laughed and smiled with pride and joy when Carton brought up a game-winning field goal from Dwayne. The young athlete was previously a soccer player before picking up football in the last two years in between seasons.

“Of course, it’s every amazing emotion that you can name,” the rapper said of the opportunity and how he reacted to the news. “But given his situation, he’s a soccer player by nature. So taking up kicking was just something he started doing about two years ago, two summers ago… He, on his own, ended up working out with Marten Andersen’s son. The famous [New Orleans] Saints kicker. I’m like, ‘That’s really kicking.’ That’s not, ‘I’m just doing this while I’m not doing soccer.’ […] His coach told him to come try out, and he made the team at his school… Once he made that team, he did really well. He was recommended to go to the school he’s at now, which is much better for kickers and athletics, period.”

Dwayne Carter III debuted for the Gainesville High School team in Georgia during the 2026 season. With the guidance of Hall of Famer Andersen, who holds the record for the most games played by a kicker, the sky is the limit.
