We can’t have enough of that glorious soap opera drama, can we? And let’s be honest, if the stars don’t align for these characters to come back, they might just make it happen, because let’s face it—what’s life without a little resurrection?
For instance, Lexie Carver’s return was a delightful shocker, bringing fresh emotional arcs to the forefront for Abe and Theo… and a juicy love triangle that’s sure to keep us on our toes! So, what do you think, has the cosmos aligned to keep us captivated, or are we in for a wild ride? LEARN MORE.
Coming back from the dead is an infamous trope on soap operas.
Days of Our Lives has used it many times over the past 60 years, and while some fans have grown tired of it, I enjoy it because it adds drama.
I’ve lost count of how many times Stefano Dimera, John Black, and Jack Deveraux have returned. The only reason Stefano or John won’t be back is that the actors have died in real life.

Therefore, I was excited to see Lexie Carver in that pod. The Carvers haven’t gotten enough stories since she passed.
Her return means actual emotional arcs for both Abe and Theo, and gives Abe his own love triangle between two wives. I couldn’t be happier, and I’m seated for the drama.
Ever since Lexie initially died in 2012, Abe and Theo‘s stories have been scarce compared to those of other characters.
They’ve had a few, especially when Abe was shot in 2016 and an old flame, Valerie Grant, returned to treat him.
It was even more ironic when her son, Eli, began dating Abe’s daughter, Lani.
But beyond that and his romance with Paulina, it often feels like Abe is used as a sounding board for other characters.
Days of Our Lives never even showed Theo’s romance and break-up with Claire. His relationship with Ciara was second best.

Now they actually have an important storyline with lots of airtime, messy emotions, and complex emotions.
While EJ confided in Theo beforehand, Theo hated keeping anything from Abe. Theo is such an honest person, and this could affect relationships with many people.
For years, Abe likely prayed for another chance with Lexie. While EJ brought her back partly out of family devotion, he also wanted to screw over Paulina.
That put Abe in a horrible position, especially since Lexie is still in love with him, and Paulina would love to continue their lives, but doesn’t want to interfere.
I think it’s soapy goodness, and I love that different characters are experiencing the resurrection trope. Abe (James Reynolds) deserves his chance to shine.

Half the time, it feels like the writers forget Theo’s autism when writing his character. As Theo grew older, he became higher-functioning, but he still wasn’t comfortable with many people or changes.
I hated that EJ took advantage of his nephew, but it worked. EJ knew that Lexie never wanted Theo to work at Dimera, and Theo would never want to disappoint or upset his mother as she awakened.
But Days went so much deeper than that. Theo reminded his mother that she had helped him face his fear of school by putting a train stamp on his wrist.
It represented their bond, and he loved trains. While I didn’t remember that exact scene, I do remember he loved trains and was dependent on Lexie.

Lexie had difficulty accepting that Theo had grown up and no longer needed her as much. While he wanted his family to reunite, he didn’t want to lose Paulina, Lani, or Chanel either.
Theo still didn’t handle change well, and this predicament could mean he would lose half of his family, likely his sisters.
I’ve enjoyed all the actors who have portrayed a young-adult Theo, but Tyler Joseph Andrews has brought wonderful emotional nuance.
I know that Lexie Carver was usually sweet and kind, but she’s also a Dimera, so she won’t let anyone walk all over her.
I might be in the minority, but I was thrilled her claws came out, and she fought to keep Abe. It still felt like 2012 to her, and she assumed she, Abe, and Theo were a family.

Lexie would do anything to keep that family, including confronting Paulina.
Typically, Paulina is bold and confident, but she agreed to step aside so Abe and Lexie could work things out.
I suspect she felt guilty for keeping EJ’s plans to herself, but she did Abe a favor by letting him see that Lexie survived.
Abe needed time to decide which woman he wanted to be with because, as Paulina joked, it couldn’t be a threesome. He mourned Lexie for years, but he loves Paulina deeply now.
I hate that the rumors imply that Lexie will only be on Days for five or six months. These types of stunt castings don’t work because fans become invested only to have things ripped away.

I want this emotional family drama and love triangle to be long-term. Abe looks so torn because Lexie and Paulina are so different, but they both love him deeply, and he loves them.
There’s potential for this storyline to last for months without getting tired or boring if the writers do it right. I’m anxious to see.
