Pop star Jessie J has revealed she will be taking an indefinite step away from social media.

It’s been an eventful couple of years for Jessie J, 38, who released her first album in eight years, moved country, embarked on a world tour and went through a breakup all while raising a young child.

Oh, and there was the small matter of being diagnosed with breast cancer and going on to beat it.

After a ‘magical, successful and life-changing’ yet hectically busy period, she has now announced her decision to take a step back from the limelight of social media.

“Now’s the time. Work has slowed down,” she wrote on Instagram. “So healing speeds up please.

“So I’m tapping out of this [Earth emoji] for a while and into my real one. To give my mind, body and heart a well needed hug.”

Jessie J explains why she is leaving social media

The Price Tag singer has explained she is going on a ‘digital cleanse’ while she undergoes her second cancer reconstruction surgery.

Jessie J announced she had been diagnosed with early breast cancer on June 4, 2025, going public with the diagnosis to raise awareness. She went under the knife later that month.

On 22 May this year, she revealed she was ‘cancer free,’ and that after learning the happy news she: “Sobbed for hours and then exhaled for the first time in a year.”

Discussing her next operation, she continued in her post: “To finally have my second cancer reconstruction surgery, to recharge, heal, to rest, to process, to love on myself and my boy, to water the next chapter of my life and most importantly be present and really live.

“I never feel I can really give that side the energy and time it deserves when it’s needed while staying on socials and my phone so much.

“A digital cleanse it is.

“I’m posting this for the people who would give af that I haven’t posted or been active for a while. The people who have followed, supported, loved and cared on me and for me during this journey.

“Thank you for holding me up. So go easy in the comments serious Sallys.”

She did clarify that there may be occasional posts from her account, but they would be to do with her work.

“Might pop on every now and again for work commitments (which sometimes will be my team) but other than that. See you when feels right.”

Jessie J has dealt with a string of health problems throughout her life, even before the cancer diagnosis.

As a child, she was diagnosed with a heart condition, suffered a stroke in her teens and contracted Meniere’s disease in 2020, which briefly made her deaf.

In 2024, she announced she had been diagnosed with OCD and ADHD.

Jessie J’s announcement follows the news that fellow singer Ariana Grande is taking a step back from the public eye following the conclusion of her Eternal Sunshine tour on September 1 amid “endless, ongoing public scrutiny.”

Grande thanked fans in an emotional message at her final gig in London last week.
