Jada Pinkett Smith is pushing back again in the $3 million lawsuit filed by Will Smith’s former friend Bilaal Salaam, this time asking the court to order him to undergo an independent mental examination.

The actress argues that Salaam has made his psychological and emotional condition central to his case, meaning his claims should be independently tested.

The request adds another layer to a battle already involving medical records, alleged threat recordings and an attempted deposition of Will Smith.

According to court documents obtained by the Daily Mail, Jada Pinkett Smith wants Salaam to undergo an examination lasting five to six hours, excluding breaks.

The evaluation would include a psychiatric interview, mental-status examination and standardized psychological testing. Pinkett Smith’s filing says it would not involve a physical examination or any “painful, protracted, or intrusive procedure.”

The move follows months of arguments over the evidence Salaam says supports his emotional-distress claims.

As The Blast previously reported, Pinkett Smith’s team had already sought medical records after Salaam attributed major personal and health consequences to the alleged conduct.

TMZ reported that Pinkett Smith’s latest filing says Salaam made his mental and emotional condition a “centerpiece” of the case, giving her side reason to seek an independent assessment.

Bilaal Salaam Says the Alleged Fallout Upended His Health And Personal Life

Salaam, who has described himself as a longtime friend and associate of Will Smith, sued Jada Pinkett Smith in November 2025 for intentional infliction of emotional distress.

His complaint alleges that Pinkett Smith confronted him during Will’s 2021 birthday celebration and warned that he could “end up missing or catch a bullet” if he continued discussing her personal business. Pinkett Smith has denied wrongdoing.

Salaam also claims the dispute intensified after he refused to participate in crisis-management efforts following Will’s 2022 Oscars slap and after people around the Smiths learned he was planning a memoir.

According to court filings summarized by PEOPLE, Salaam says the alleged fallout caused him to leave the United States for 18 months, damaged a long-term romantic relationship and kept him from being physically present with his children.

He also linked the stress to a roughly 100-pound weight gain, high blood pressure and Type 2 diabetes.

The mental-examination request is not the first time Jada Pinkett Smith has challenged the proof behind Salaam’s allegations.

In July, her lawyers asked Judge Eric Harmon to compel Salaam to turn over recordings of phone calls he says came from intermediaries threatening him on her behalf.

They also sought medical records supporting the physical and emotional injuries for which he is seeking millions in damages.

MyNewsLA reported that Pinkett Smith’s attorneys argued that Salaam had not confirmed whether the alleged recordings actually existed or agreed to produce them.

One call, Salaam claims, came from a talent manager who allegedly told him to “end this feud before you get physically hurt.”

Her legal team has consistently disputed his account and previously described his broader allegations as “false” and “uncorroborated.”

The Court Has Already Narrowed Parts of Salaam’s Lawsuit

The case has produced several rulings before the latest examination request.

In April, Judge Harmon granted Pinkett Smith’s anti-SLAPP motion in part while denying other portions, leaving claims involving alleged threats, coercion and intimidation through intermediaries in play. The court later ordered Salaam to pay nearly $33,000 in attorney fees and costs connected to that ruling.

Salaam then tried to amend his complaint. Court records show Harmon denied his request on August 19 after finding procedural problems with the filing, including insufficient notice for a revised proposed complaint.

Days later, the judge struck another amended complaint Salaam filed despite that ruling. The development meant the case continued in a narrower form rather than expanding into the version Salaam had sought.

The dispute has reached beyond Jada Pinkett Smith.

In July, Salaam, who was representing himself, asked to depose Will Smith. Emails included in court filings showed Pinkett Smith’s attorneys rejecting the request, saying Will was not a party to the litigation and had not been served with a subpoena.

The request came as her team sought Salaam’s medical records and alleged threat recordings.

The conflict also traces back to Salaam’s 2023 public claims about Will. After Salaam made allegations about the actor and Duane Martin during an online interview, Will’s representative called the story “unequivocally false.” Pinkett Smith dismissed the allegation as “ridiculous” and “nonsense.”

Now, rather than debating only what was said publicly, the fight is focused on what evidence Salaam can produce to support the damages he says he suffered and whether an independent examination will become part of that process.
