Yesterday, I had an eye-opening conversation with a longtime friend who’s been weathering quite the storm—thanks to a brutal Pluto transit that feels like it was designed by a twisted reality show producer. Imagine the intensity of life’s plot twists wrapped in an astrological burrito, especially when you throw in those exact squares at 29 Cardinal and 5 Fixed! For her, this isn’t just drama; it’s a soul-destroying ordeal that many might find hard to fathom. Have you ever felt like life handed you a script written in a language you couldn’t decode?
When the stars align for a cosmic smackdown of this nature, it can leave you feeling blank, like a computer that’s gone into self-preservation mode—shutting down to protect itself from an overload. But here’s the kicker: these experiences are often cloaked in silence, thick with shame, fear, or the desperate need to save face. Who wants to broadcast their pain to the world, right? So often, we find ourselves caught in the shadows, unable to articulate our struggles, burying them deep within.
My friend has become a living example of this phenomenon—confiding in me, seeking solace in our shared history, much like how I once did during my therapy sessions. It’s a raw, vulnerable space, where truths are spilled like secrets in a whisper, yet so many still suffer alone, either unwilling or unable to share. Think about a child caught in a similar transit—what do you think they feel, keeping such heavy secrets inside?

Yesterday, I spoke with a gal I’ve worked with for years. She’s in the midst of a long-running, Pluto transit from hell. Specifically, she has an exact square between two planets at 29 Cardinal. She has a second exact square at 5 Fixed. Basically, episode one, followed by episode two. What has happened to this woman is unfathomable, which is what I want to discuss.
In situations like this, you get taken down. I’m talking about being wiped out, when personal planets are involved. Thing happen to you, that are beyond your ability to process. Most all but shut down as a trauma response. They go into survival mode.
These experiences are extremely isolating. There are things that happen in this world; you can’t just put them out there for a myriad of reasons. Shame, perhaps. Fear of being viewed in a different light. The need to protect your job or your reputation. You may want to protect others from the shadow that has consumed you. You may simply not be able to speak.
This client has confided in me; which is also common. A person will find a single person they can speak to. Someone they trust not to judge them or betray them. I’ve done this myself, in therapy, in my late twenties. I would go into my therapist’s office, and essentially, puke it up and go. What you’re containing is vile; it must be expelled at some point to save the host. This is what I mean by “survival”. That’s how it feels when you’re plunged into darkness, very often through no fault of your own.
If you doubt me, just think of a child with a transit like this. Think of the things that can and do happen to some young people; how they have to endure them. What do you think that feels like, inside?
Years ago, a gal in her thirties, scheduled a consultation with me. I got on the phone, she said she was going to tell me some things. “Okay.”
She spent the thirty minutes, telling me everything horrible that had happened to her. She stopped, periodically, to ask if I were okay. “I am. Go ahead.”
When she finished, she thanked me and told me I would never hear from her again. She hoped I was okay. “I am, I understand and you’re welcome. Goodbye and good luck.”
