Jimmy Kimmel is having a good laugh with Senator Mitch McConnell‘s health at the center.

The late-night show TV host put a spin of satire on a post almost identical to the one uploaded by the politician to give fans and constituents an update on his health status. Amid concerns raised after being hospitalized for weeks, questions and conspiracy theories have filled the air.

Jimmy Kimmel’s jokes have often rubbed those in authority the wrong way. Before his recent skit with Mitch McConnell’s post, his popular show “Jimmy Kimmel Live” was briefly suspended after he made jokes about the murder of Charlie Kirk.

Kimmel put his spin on a McConnell original, and the reactions are through the roof. The comedian uploaded a copy photo, quite similar to the senator’s post with just a few tweaks.

In place of the 84-year-old politician, Kimmel added his picture, dressed in the same outfit, and even retained the senator’s wife, Elaine, who posed beside the hospital bed.

“For those who’ve been asking, I’m feeling great,” the TV host captioned his post, which sent many fans into a laughing spree. Thousands of commenters made their way to the comment section, with many posting strings of crying-laughter emojis. “I’m dying!! [laughing emojis],” a user wrote, “Hilarious [crying laughter emoji],” another added.

Some netizens who did not get the joke asked what was wrong with Kimmel’s health, while others sent thoughts and prayers. “What was wrong, or is this satire? Lmao,” a fan penned.

While many saw the humor in Kimmel’s post, others did not take the joke and urged the comedian to not make a jest at the expense of the health of others. “Very poor taste, no matter your political views. Do better, Jimmy!” a fan penned.

Inside The Politicians’ Health Update Post

McConnell gave followers a health status update via a Facebook post on Sunday, July 12. Attached to a picture of himself in a hospital bed and Elaine by his side wearing bright smiles was a lengthy caption with the details.

The politician began by thanking his “fellow Kentuckians” for their support and for making him the Commonwealth’s longest-serving senator by electing him for a seventh term. He also showed appreciation for the well-wishes he had received concerning his health over the past few weeks.

McConnell noted that he took a while to update the public on the matter of his health due to a natural hesitation that comes with the vulnerability of growing older.

Despite his fears about being so vulnerable in the public eye, McConnell decided to open up. He reflected on surviving childhood polio, which has left him with lifelong mobility troubles that have become more of a challenge with his age.

The Kentucky senator revealed that he suffered a fall last month that landed him in the hospital. However, he clarified that he did not break any bones or suffer a concussion. “I didn’t have a heart attack or a stroke. I don’t have any tumors or hemorrhages. But I was briefly unconscious and was taken to the hospital,” he wrote.

McConnell assured fans that despite his absence from the Senate floor, he is doing his best to make a full recovery and is still working on current issues with his legislative staff with the interest of his Kentuckians at heart.

US Weekly reported that Laura Loomer, a right-wing activist, previously shared her opinion about McConnell’s health. She claimed that based on intel received from a White House source, the senator might be brain-dead.

The senator’s office, however, debunked the rumor in a statement that read, “The Senator continues to improve, and is working closely with his staff on Kentucky and Senate matters while the Senate is out of session.”

Some celebrities were also vocal on the matter, including “Real Housewives of Beverly Hills” star Lisa Rinna. The media personality claimed that McConnell was already dead in a video shared on social media. “I mean, come on, Mitch McConnell’s dead. He’s dead. They’re keeping him alive like ‘Weekend at Bernie’s,’” Rinna said last week.

The Blast reported that the “Real Housewives” star’s claim came shortly after GOP strategist Scott Jennings made a post on X claiming that he had a lengthy chat with McConnell for almost 20 minutes on a variety of topics.

With the rising speculation, many looked to the POTUS for insight and probable answers to the big question throbbing on people’s minds. While aboard Air Force One on July 8, Trump was asked for an update on the Kentucky senator’s health, to which he gave a quite shocking response.

“No, I have no idea. I have no idea how he’s doing,” Trump said at the time, raising even more concern rather than calming the storm.

As reported by TV Insider, a conspiracy theory that has spread widely online echoes the thought s that McConnell had passed on and the government is covering it up. Trump’s statement did not disprove the theory.

McConnell was hospitalized on June 14, according to reports, for an unknown ailment after je was found “unconscious” by the paramedics. Since his hospitalization, the Republican politician has not been seen in public.

Back in 2023, McConnell’s health was a topic of conversation after cameras caught him freezing mid-sentence during a speech he delivered at Capitol Hill. He also suffered a fall that same year, which caused a concussion and left him in rehabilitation for several weeks.

The Republican politician froze during his speech and was immediately surrounded and escorted off camera. He later returned to handle the Q&A session after one of his aides explained that McConnell felt “lightheaded” at the time and needed to step away for a bit. Upon his return to the stage, McConnell told reporters that he was “fine” and continued with the session.

The senator fell in 2023 during a visit to the Waldorf Astoria Hotel in Washington, DC, in 2023 and previously in 2019 at his Kentucky home when he tripped on his outdoor patio. The fall in 2019 left McConnell with a fractured shoulder, as reported by The Blast.
