Hilary Swank reportedly plans to take a break from her acting career so she can spend more time with her family as she awaits the arrival of her third child at 52.
The famous actress, who shares her three-year-old twins, Aya and Ohm, with her husband of eight years, Philip Schneider, announced she was expecting another baby on October 14 via Instagram.
Hilary Swank’s decision to prioritize family time over her career comes amid criticism over becoming a parent later in life and after years of balancing her professional commitments with her personal life.

According to a new report, Swank virtually has no acting projects lined up as she prepares to bring another child into the world, which a source says is a deliberate choice so she could focus on her family.
“She hasn’t got anything much, if at all, in the works as far as projects go,” the source told the Examiner, adding that Swank desires to have “a good long stretch of time to focus on her kids.”
The actress is decidedly not abandoning her long-held profession and “fully intends to continue her career.” However, “her plan for the foreseeable future is to make her family the priority.”
The insider explained that Swank is fortunate enough to take an extended break from work owing to her financial success. “She’s made a lot of money over the years and saved well, so taking a chunk of time off is very manageable,” the source said.
While the “Million Dollar Baby” star can afford to take time off from her career, according to the source, she will lose “millions” from lucrative opportunities she would otherwise have engaged in.
Nevertheless, “she doesn’t care. Enjoying this magical time in her life that she’s waited so long to have is all she cares about.”
Swank announced on Wednesday, October 14, that she and her husband are about to welcome a third bundle of joy. She shared the news in a cute Instagram clip featuring her entire family, including three-year-old Aya and Ohm.
In the video, the family is dancing in the dark, only being lit by glow-in-the-dark stick figures taped to their bodies.
Swank emerged from the dark, showing off her baby bump lit up in the same way, announcing to the world that they were expecting.
“A lot of people have been asking what project I’m doing next; this one releases in December,” the actress joked in the caption.

Swank and Schneider married in 2018 after they had already been dating for two years.
The couple subsequently welcomed twins in April 2023, when the actress was 48 years old.
She had announced her pregnancy with the twins on “Good Morning America” in 2022, saying at the time, “I’m going to be a mom — and not just of one, but of two, I can’t believe it.”
The mother and father are both 52 years old, and their latest pregnancy means they expect to be raising their children into their old age.

Swank being pregnant at an advanced maternal age comes with increased risk and medical implications to take into consideration.
As reported by CBS News, Dr. Kameelah Phillips, OB-GYN, said that Swank’s pregnancy is “extremely rare” considering her age and that “Most women in this age group are entering menopause.”
She explained that “even if your ovaries have started to become quiet … your uterus can actually be convinced to carry a pregnancy through the process of IVF.”
However, there’s a need to be attended to by a high-risk team because such moms, “they have the increased risk of gestational hypertension, preeclampsia, diabetes, increased risk of C-section.”
Swank finds that there’s “beauty” in being an older parent because, as she put it, “I had the opportunity to dive deep into this dream of being an actor and now I can dive deep into this dream of being a mom because I’m not pulled in any other direction.”

The “Boys Don’t Cry” actress has faced some criticism for putting off becoming a mother till she was in her late forties and early fifties.
During an appearance on “The Drew Barrymore Show,” Swank recalled a woman who questioned her decision to have kids at her age.
The woman had scolded her for being pregnant, saying, “How dare you? You’re too old, and you won’t be [around] when your kids are older. And my dad was my favorite person, and he died when I was in my 20s, my early 20s, and it’s just devastation.”
Swank said she could “relate” to the fan’s emotions because she had lost her own father, Stephen Michael Swank, but that she believed she would rather have the experience of losing her “favorite person” than not be born at all.
