King Charles and Queen Camilla are set to celebrate the 50th anniversary of The King’s Trust with a lineup of events next week. His Majesty founded the charity five decades ago, while still the Prince of Wales, using his Navy severance pay, and it has since gone on to help more than 1.3 million people.
The celebrations come amid fresh chatter about possible tensions within the royal family, after reports claimed Kate Middleton was allegedly left offended when Charles and Camilla suggested changing the spelling of her first name from “Catherine” to “Katherine.”

Charles and Camilla are scheduled to step out in London on Monday, May 11, as part of celebrations marking the golden anniversary of The King’s Trust.
The special event is set to take place at the Royal Albert Hall. The occasion will bring together the charity’s ambassadors, alumni, staff, and volunteers to celebrate the impact it has made over the years, along with the achievements of the many young people it has supported.
According to the Express, the King and Queen will be welcomed upon their arrival that evening and are also expected to meet longtime ambassadors and hosts Ant and Dec. During the celebration, the royal couple will additionally spend time with this year’s King’s Trust award winners alongside their presenters.
Charles and Camilla are also expected to take to the stage for a group photo with the charity’s award recipients, as well as a “three cheers” moment with the audience.
Fifty years ago, a young Prince of Wales left his service in the Royal Navy with a severance payment of roughly £7,600 and used it to launch The King’s Trust, formerly known as The Prince’s Trust.
The UK-based charity supports young people between the ages of 11 and 30 by helping them build confidence, gain skills, and move into education, training, or employment. Since its launch, it has helped more than one million young people, with many going on to achieve positive outcomes.

During their last state visit to the U.S., the royal couple attended a New York gala that was also held to celebrate the 50th anniversary of The King’s Trust. During a speech at the event, Charles reflected on what the organization has meant to him over the years and shared his hope that it will continue making an impact long after him.
“It’s a wonderfully proud but extraordinary moment to think that it’s 50 years since I started this trust,” he said, per PEOPLE. “Quite difficult to get it off the ground in the first place, but we did.”

His Majesty also appeared to reference his mortality while speaking about a future he may not live to witness, though he expressed confidence that the organization is in good hands and will continue to “champion the next generation.”
“I won’t see the long-distance future, but I’m enormously grateful to you all for what you can all do as supporters to help this vital endeavor, to champion the next generation, ensuring that their talent and ambition continue to strengthen our societies for many years to come,” he said.
The remarks come after Charles announced his cancer diagnosis in February 2024 and later revealed that he has continued receiving treatment into 2026.

Meanwhile, fresh reports suggest Charles and Camilla’s relationship with Kate Middleton suffered a strain before she married the Prince of Wales.
Royal biographer Christopher Andersen claimed in his book that Charles and Camilla once asked Kate if she could change the spelling of her first name from “Catherine” to “Katherine,” as they felt having a third royal emblem featuring a “C” would be “overkill.”
“Charles and Camilla each had a royal monogram that consisted of interlocking C’s beneath a crown,” Andersen explained, per Page Six, adding that Camilla pointed out Kate was already commonly referred to as “Kate.”
According to the author, the Princess was allegedly “offended” by the request, with William said to have responded on her behalf by calling it “insulting … not only to Kate but to her entire family.”
