The father of two told his host that he sees himself as a “full-time dad” and a “British Army veteran,” alongside his royal titles.
The Duke also discussed the inspiration behind creating the Invictus Games and explained why Birmingham is the perfect location to host the upcoming edition of the competition.
Since stepping back from senior royal duties and relocating to California, Prince Harry has remained firmly in the public spotlight through his involvement in a wide range of nonprofit ventures.
However, when he was asked about his occupation during a recent interview on “Joe Marler Will See You Now,” the father of two gave an answer many people likely did not expect.
Rather than listing his various business and charitable endeavors, Harry described himself as a “full-time dad” to Prince Archie and Princess Lilibet. He also referenced his military service and royal background, calling himself a “British Army veteran,” “Prince of England,” and “Duke.”
He then wrapped up the lighthearted exchange by turning the question back to the host, joking, “But for today, I don’t know. What do you want?”
Harry appeared on the podcast to promote the upcoming Invictus Games, prompting host Joe Marler to jokingly suggest that the Duke describe himself as the “inventor” of the event.
However, Harry said he preferred to be called the “founder,” believing it was a more accurate description of his role.
He later explained that his decision to create the Invictus Games was rooted in the idea of “using sport as part of recovery” for wounded, injured, and sick military veterans.
“That was as simple as it was,” the Duke said. “And what it’s grown into is something that I don’t think any of us could ever have imagined. It’s gone far wider than just the military community. It really means something to people.”
The upcoming edition of the Invictus Games is scheduled to take place in Birmingham, and according to Harry, the event is already proving to be about much more than competition.
“There’s a lot of reconnections happening as well with the clinicians that saved these guys’ lives, put them back together again,” he said.
As an example, Harry spoke about Josh, a triple amputee and member of the Invictus Games Foundation, who recently returned to Birmingham and reunited with the clinician who treated him more than a decade ago.
The Invictus Games founder said the reunion was deeply meaningful and reinforced his belief that Birmingham is the perfect host city for the next edition of the Games.
“There’s a lot of heart and emotion to the reason why Birmingham is hosting the next Games,” the Duke shared.
Earlier this month, Harry visited Birmingham as part of preparations for the upcoming Invictus Games, where he similarly described the city as the ideal host during an interview.
“Birmingham is the center point where so many of the wounded soldiers came back through from Afghanistan, not just from the UK, but from other nations as well,” the Duke said. “So, this is a real homecoming for so many of them. It’s quite a moving return for these guys.”
He also explained why the Games have resonated with so many people since launching in 2014.
“It is literally overcoming adversity,” Harry said. “And I think that no matter who you are, where you are, whatever you’ve come up against, you can. I think that’s the mentality.”
Harry’s visit to the UK also provided an opportunity for an emotional reunion with his father, King Charles.
The prince met with the monarch at his private residence in Gloucestershire, bringing along his wife, Meghan, and their children.
The visit marked the first time the King had seen his grandchildren in person in more than four years.
Meanwhile, Harry and Meghan had not returned to the UK together since 2022, when they attended Queen Elizabeth II’s funeral.
