More than a decade later, that image has been replaced by a bitter divorce, custody battles, financial problems and a legal case involving her teenage son.
Now, former publicist Jonathan Jaxson is reflecting on the dramatic shift, saying the lifestyle surrounding Zolciak eventually became something far darker.
Jaxson, who worked with Kim Zolciak from 2007 to 2009 and reconnected with her during her separation from Kroy Biermann, told the Daily Mail that the reality star’s “very turbulent” lifestyle seemed to become “toxic.”
That assessment came from someone who remembers a very different Zolciak. During her rise on “The Real Housewives of Atlanta,” she was known for her larger-than-life personality, and Jaxson recalled that “she was the life of the party.”
Jaxson also described the pull of being involved in her world as “addictive,” comparing it to being caught up in a spectacle that becomes increasingly difficult to leave.
Jaxson’s perspective comes as Zolciak’s private problems have increasingly become public. Her separation from Biermann in 2023 has involved repeated reconciliations, court disputes, custody fights and financial problems, eventually leading to the sale of their Georgia mansion.
The conflict with Biermann has extended far beyond their divorce. The estranged couple has made competing allegations in court filings, including claims involving their parenting and the treatment of their children.
Biermann has accused Kim Zolciak of being an unfit parent, while the reality star has made allegations of physical and emotional abuse against him involving their children.
Their custody fight has also resulted in Zolciak temporarily losing physical custody of the children on two occasions.
A court-appointed guardian ad litem has been involved in determining the children’s best interests, while Biermann currently has primary physical custody of the minor children.
The family situation became even more serious last month when their 15-year-old son, KJ, was indicted on seven felony charges stemming from allegations involving a female classmate.
KJ and his family denied the allegations, and his attorney said he intended to plead not guilty.
Jaxson also expressed concern about how the current circumstances could affect KJ, particularly as the teenager tries to maintain a normal life while facing the criminal allegations.
“Can you imagine you’re trying to play football, be the star athlete, and then the wig showing up along with Kroy,” he said, adding, “It’s hard. You’re going to be judged.”
KJ is currently subject to strict bond conditions, including virtual schooling, electronic monitoring and restrictions on social media, cellphone use and contact with the alleged victim or anyone under 16, according to The Blast.
Amid the upheaval, Jaxson believes Zolciak would benefit from focusing on her career rather than continuing to engage in the surrounding conflicts.
He told the outlet that she is “very lucky” with her new boyfriend, Kyle Mowitz, before offering his advice if he were representing her today.
According to him, “If I was her publicist now, I would say, ‘Kim, let’s focus on your wig line. Let’s focus on book. Let’s focus on other things.’”
The legal proceedings involving Kim Zolciak’s son took another turn in September when prosecutors asked a Georgia court to order forensic interviews with unidentified minor children.
The Blast revealed that on September 17, the Fulton County District Attorney’s Office filed an emergency motion seeking court-ordered interviews, saying it had a “good faith basis for concern regarding additional minors who require forensic interviews related to this case.”
The filing did not identify the children, disclose how many minors prosecutors wanted interviewed or explain publicly what information they might have about the case.
The request therefore did not establish that the children were additional alleged victims.
Prosecutors also asked the court to consider explicit video evidence privately. The motion requested that any discussion involving potential victims and the video evidence take place “in camera or in a closed courtroom, with counsel for defendant present,” with the evidence reviewed under seal.
The prosecutorial request was followed by another significant court decision involving KJ’s privacy.
According to Page Six, KJ’s legal team asked to close the courtroom to the public, but Fulton County Superior Court Judge Melynee Leftridge rejected the request after finding that the legal standard for closing the proceedings had not been met.
The ruling did not leave the teenager without privacy protections. Leftridge granted a separate request restricting media recording and photography as needed to enforce the court’s protective measures.
The judge also ordered that KJ’s juvenile court records be filed under seal, keeping those records from public view.
The court also declined to prevent prosecutors from presenting limited information from KJ’s juvenile court history when that information is relevant to the court’s consideration of his bond.
That distinction allowed the proceedings to remain open while restricting access to sensitive juvenile material.
