A staffer in President Donald Trump’s administration is facing fresh scrutiny after a viral confrontation at an NBA game became more complicated with new footage and expert analysis.

Former ESPN reporter Britt McHenry, who now serves as a U.S. State Department press adviser, was filmed throwing a drink toward fans during the Washington Wizards’ home opener against the Milwaukee Bucks.

However, another angle appeared to show a beverage being thrown in McHenry’s direction before she retaliated, while sources close to her have claimed inappropriate comments were directed at her before the confrontation escalated.

Now, expert lip reader Nicola Hickling and celebrity body language expert Inbaal Honigman have analyzed the chaotic footage, offering new interpretations of what McHenry appeared to say and what her gestures may have revealed beneath her outward display of confidence.

Donald Trump Staffer’s NBA Blowup Had More Context Than First Clip Showed

TMZ initially published footage showing McHenry tossing a drink toward someone in the crowd before making her way through the arena as fans booed.

The former sports reporter could be seen waving and blowing kisses while leaving the seating area before later appearing to argue with security.

However, sources close to McHenry told the outlet there was more behind the confrontation.

They claimed people seated behind McHenry and her male companion had made inappropriate remarks about Milwaukee Bucks star Kyle Kuzma’s fiancée, Winnie Harlow, before allegedly directing misogynistic comments at McHenry.

A second video provided another angle. People could be heard calling McHenry “crazy” and “racist” and demanding that she be removed. As she got up, someone behind her appeared to throw a beverage in her direction.

McHenry then grabbed a cup and threw it back toward the group. Sources close to her also maintained that she was not formally kicked out of the arena and instead chose to leave for the bar while her male companion remained at the game.

Expert lip reader Nicola Hickling analyzed both clips for Casino.org and interpreted several moments that were difficult to hear clearly in the original footage.

Early in the first clip, Hickling believes McHenry turned toward someone filming her and demanded, “How dare you film me?”

Later, Hickling interpreted McHenry as saying, “I work for him. I am famous, so f— you, baby.”

Hickling also interpreted a man near McHenry as repeatedly trying to de-escalate the situation.

At one stage, he appeared to tell her, “Listen to me. Don’t react. It ain’t worth it.”

McHenry was then interpreted as defending herself with, “They were bothering me,” before apparently trying to negotiate with staff.

“Maybe I can stand outside and we can talk this through,” she appeared to say.

As she walked through the doors, Hickling interpreted one final remark from McHenry as another profane dismissal.

Expert Says McHenry’s Body Language Told A Different Story

Celebrity body language expert Inbaal Honigman also analyzed the footage for Casino.org and focused on what she described as a major contrast between McHenry’s two hands.

As McHenry walked away and blew kisses toward the crowd, Honigman said her raised right hand appeared open and relaxed.

The expert interpreted the gesture as an attempt to project innocence and indifference, almost as though McHenry wanted observers to believe the confrontation did not bother her.

Her left hand, however, appeared noticeably different.

Honigman noted that McHenry kept it tightly curled around her phone and wallet and argued that the tension in her fingers suggested stress and anger.

“Her left hand lets us know how she feels inside, seething with rage, while the right hand puts on a show of indifference,” Honigman explained.

She also pointed to what she considered a contradiction between McHenry’s facial expression and posture.

While her expression appeared relatively dismissive, Honigman said her shoulders were curled forward.

“The curled shoulders are an attempt to make herself small, to disappear from the scene,” she explained, adding, “Her face says whatever, while her shoulders say never ever.”

Fans Were Divided Over Who Was To Blame For The Heated Clash

The conflicting footage also fueled a divided response online.

Some viewers criticized McHenry’s behavior and argued there was no justification for throwing the drink.

One commenter wrote, “She needs to go to jail. No excuse for trashy behavior.”

Another revived McHenry’s previous controversies, writing that she had a history of treating people poorly.

Others, however, questioned whether the initial coverage sufficiently reflected what happened before McHenry retaliated.

One viewer argued that the headline should instead have focused on a “fan” allegedly harassing the Trump staffer, while another simply asked, “Well, what did he do to her?”

Britt McHenry Previously Faced Backlash Over Another Viral Confrontation

The NBA incident has also revived attention around a controversy from McHenry’s ESPN days.

In 2015, ESPN suspended McHenry for one week after video emerged showing her berating an employee at a towing company.

During the exchange, McHenry insulted the employee’s job and appearance after her vehicle had been towed.

ESPN called her comments “completely inappropriate,” while McHenry publicly apologized.

“In an intense & stressful moment, I allowed my emotions to get the best of me and said some insulting & regrettable things,” she wrote at the time.

More than a decade later, another heated public confrontation has placed McHenry back under scrutiny, this time while she holds a government communications position in Donald Trump’s administration.
