Is the universe aligning for Drake, or is he just dodging Grammy bullets like Neo in The Matrix? As 2023 unfolds, he seems to be thriving—blasting through the charts with not one, not two, but three new albums: ICEMAN, HABIBTI, and MAID OF HONOUR. I mean, seriously, could he be any more prolific? Just when you think he’s taken a breather, he ups the ante with a deluxe version of HABIBTI, possibly pushing it to gold status. But wait… There’s an astrological twist lurking in the stars! With Saturn’s influence casting shadows over award ceremonies, Drake might just be sending a message louder than his hits, as he openly boycotts the Grammys—no submissions, no attendance. Is he simply tired of the politics or is there something cosmic stirring in his creative soul? Let’s dive into his enigmatic year, the hits that have people buzzing, and the bold stand against a trophy he doesn’t seem to care about anymore!
Drake is having one of his best years of the 2020s so far. He has released three new albums, including ICEMAN, HABIBTI, and MAID OF HONOUR. In fact, HABIBTI got a FOMO Deluxe on Friday, which could give this project gold status after five months on streaming services.
The artist has delivered some big hits on his new albums, including “Shabang” and “Janice STFU” on ICEMAN. Some felt as though ICEMAN could be a Rap Album Of The Year contender at this year’s Grammys. However, that is not going to be in the cards.
In the past, Drake has been critical of the institution, and this year, he is sticking to his guns. Drake has not submitted any of his songs or albums to the Grammys this year. Simply put, don’t expect him to attend next year’s ceremony.
Interestingly enough, Drake rapped about making this decision on “MAKE THEM KNOW.”
“This album, I’m never submittin’ it/’Cause I know that they’ll never consider it./This might be the one year I won/’Cause I know how they like to position it,” he raps on the song.
Clearly, Drake has been planning this for a while now. He wants to show people that he doesn’t need the Grammys to be a success. Even though he has showcased some jealousy about Kendrick Lamar‘s ability to win them.
One could also make the argument that the awards fever for “Not Like Us” is another reason why Drake wants to stay away. The diss track won “Song of the Year” and “Record of the Year” in 2025. It was also blasted throughout the auditorium, with his peers dancing along to it.
Given this information, Drake’s distrust of the Grammys should not be surprising.
