Charlie Kirk‘s alleged shooter, Tyler Robinson, is facing heavy scrutiny again after his recent court appearance, which was attended by the late activist’s wife, Erika Kirk.

The highly publicized proceedings, which will determine if his case heads to a criminal trial, were closely watched from the front row by the grieving widow, who broke down in tears at some point.

However, according to reports, Tyler Robinson was seen laughing a few feet away from a sobbing Erika Kirk, leading to outrage online from supporters of the late Charlie Kirk.

According to a report, Tyler Robinson, the man accused of killing right-wing activist Charlie Kirk, was spotted “laughing” in court just a few feet away from the widow, Erika Kirk.

Dressed in all black, Erika arrived at a Utah courthouse on Monday morning to confront her husband’s alleged killer for the first time.

The high-stakes meeting marked the commencement of a five-day preliminary hearing, and as shared by a Daily Mail reporter inside the room, the emotional toll was immediate, as Erika broke down in tears before the judge even took the bench.

The TPUSA CEO was accompanied by her rarely-seen in-laws, Robert and Kathryn Kirk, as well as the US president’s son, Donald Trump Jr., and his wife, Bettina Anderson Trump, who sat in the front row to offer their support.

Robinson, however, is said to have appeared completely unfazed by the somber state of things. Witnesses noted that he was actively laughing with his defense lawyer, Kathy Nester, right before the start of the proceedings, and it is currently unclear what caused his amused reaction.

Reports of Robinson’s alleged laughing in court next to a weeping Erika have now gone viral on social media, prompting a wave of backlash and harsh remarks, particularly from supporters of the late Charlie Kirk.

“He won’t be laughing sitting on death row soon,” a popular pro-MAGA wrote on X, while another account commented, “I hope this f-cker has his firing squad execution live-streamed. We will be live reacting to it.”

A third noted, “Some laughed while Jesus was dying, too. Charlie is in good company. He’s with the Lord. Unfortunately, Tyler won’t be.”

One supporter took the opportunity to send kind words to the late activist’s widow, writing, “Praying for @MrsErikaKirk and Charlie’s family. For strength and for the attacks on her to stop. So heartbreaking.”

Amid the backlash, Robinson also surprisingly received support from netizens, with some repeating the phrase, “Innocent until proven guilty.”

Robinson, 23, currently faces aggravated murder charges for the alleged killing of Kirk on the Utah Valley University campus.

He has also been charged with felony discharge of a firearm, two counts of witness tampering, two counts of obstruction of justice, and committing a violent offense in the presence of a child.

While the suspected shooter surrendered shortly after the attack, prosecutors claim that he had already texted an admission of guilt to his partner and roommate, Lance Twiggs.

No official plea has been entered in the case yet, and the defense remains silent on Robinson’s innocence as they fight to get rid of capital punishment.

Meanwhile, during Monday’s preliminary hearing, Erika and her husband’s parents reportedly walked out of the courtroom after Utah Valley University Police Officer Chris Bagley began his testimony regarding the exact moment the conservative influencer was shot.

However, they later returned following a brief courtroom recess. Erika was seen leaning her head on a friend’s shoulder for support as Bagley continued to give his testimony.

From the witness stand, Bagley recounted seeing the moment Charlie was shot, saying, “I saw him go to the left … I could no longer see the right side of his body. Then everybody started getting up and started to run, more of a chaos situation.”

According to the Daily Mail, Bagley said he immediately checked the area for wounded individuals while trying to “preserve the crime scene.”

Shortly after, he went to the top of a building in the area where he noticed an indentation in the gravel, which he claims looked like a “sniper pad,” where a person might position themselves on the ground to discharge a weapon.

The officer then emphasized to the courtroom that there was a “line of sight” stretching directly from where Charlie was seated to the top of the Losee Center, the exact spot where Robinson is suspected to have perched with his rifle.

Shortly after Charlie’s death, Erika gave a deeply emotional speech at his memorial in Glendale, Arizona, on September 21, 2025.

At the time, she spoke bravely about forgiving her husband’s alleged killer, telling a crowd of supporters that it was the late activist’s mission to help young men.

“My husband, he wanted to save young men, just like the one who took his life,” Erika said at the time.

“That man, that young man – I forgive him,” she added. “I forgive him because it was what Christ did, and it is what Charlie would do.”

However, a few months later, she seemingly changed her tune, telling journalist Megyn Kelly during a live sit-down that she feels neither “sympathy” nor “anger” for Robinson.

“Anything that I could ever wish upon him or the family would pale in comparison [to] the justice of God,” Erika declared. “And so, I look at them, almost like, ‘I’m so glad I’m not you.’”

Erika has since fought to allow cameras inside the courtroom, with Judge Tony Graf ultimately siding with her and rejecting the defense’s motion to ban electronic media.
