In a video that has since gone viral, the American politician could be seen being escorted to safety by his security team, while his wife, Cheryl Hines, who followed behind, appeared to have no one around her at that moment.
Following the incident, Hines took to social media to recount what happened, including how she and Robert F. Kennedy were evacuated from the location.
A viral video of Kennedy Jr. being whisked away during the White House shooting scare has garnered him criticism for failing to protect his wife.
“It’s so funny how he didn’t even look back for one second,” a user commented, while another said, “Cheryl got straight up left in the dust like a bad Curb episode.”

They seemed to exit through the stage area of the event, while some other attendees remained seated, awaiting instructions on how to proceed.
Kennedy’s actions were made even more noticeable by a viral poster’s caption on the nearly two-minute video.

The clip has since garnered 1.4 million views on the social media platform, along with thousands of comments.
Following the incident, Hines took to social media to share her account of what happened.
She explained that when the shots were heard, everyone took cover to avoid becoming a target. She also noted that there was widespread confusion, even as the situation grew more chaotic.
“We were there, and we heard shots, and everybody got under the tables. Nobody knew what was going on,” Hines recalled, per First Post.
While the viral video appeared to suggest that her husband’s security team paid her little attention, Hines’ account indicates that this was not the case.
“Bobby’s security detail surrounded us and took us. They really had to lift me over (the) chairs because I’m in heels and a gown,” she further remarked. “And they took us through all of the back ways, and we got in the car and left.”
The White House Correspondents’ Dinner was also attended by President Donald Trump, Vice President JD Vance, and other top politicians, who were quickly evacuated.
Despite the chaos that ensued, no fatalities were reported during the incident. The only reported injury was to a Secret Service officer, who was protected by a bulletproof vest.
A suspect, identified as Cole Thomas Allen, has since been arrested in connection with the shooting. He was reportedly armed with a shotgun and a handgun and attempted to breach security but was stopped by the U.S. Secret Service before entering the ballroom. He remains in custody as authorities continue their investigation.
Regarding how Allen gained entry to the location, reports revealed that he was a guest at the Washington Hilton hotel, where the event was taking place.
Charges of using a firearm during a crime of violence and assault on a federal officer using a dangerous weapon will be brought against him on Monday.
Since the incident, it has also been revealed that Allen worked for a tutoring company in Torrance and was once honored as the “Teacher of the Month,” according to a viral photo of him circulating on social media.
