Thompson, 61, took to Instagram on Saturday to share his gratitude for all the messages and love he’s received over the past month.

“I’m truly overwhelmed by the outpouring of love, support, prayers, and well wishes I’ve received over the past couple of weeks. Jami Schlicher, Carrot Top’s rep, released a statement during his recovery in the hospital.

“Mr. Thompson is recovering in the hospital and is receiving the care and support he needs,” Schlicher shared. “His family and those closest to him are deeply grateful for the concern, prayers, and respectfully ask for privacy.”

According to Page Six, Ronnie Bitman, Thompson’s attorney, shared in court filings that the suicide attempt happened after musician Brian Evans allegedly demanded $500,000 in return for a rumored USB with incriminating video involving the comedian.

Evans denied this statement according to TMZ, saying he “never threatened – ever- to post any video anywhere in exchange for a settlement.” He added that “the video they are discussing – as I made very clear – was deleted a long time ago in accordance with the prior settlement.”

Evans also told TMZ that he is “sorry that Scott apparently did something to hurt himself” and he doesn’t “consider Scott to be a bad person,” adding that “he made a few decisions that were not good ones. That is not a reason to hurt himself.”

During an exclusive chat with The Blast in early 2025, Thompson talked about working in comedy for 40 years and calling the Luxor in Las Vegas home for 19 years at that time (now 20).

“It’s just breathtaking to me, I even find it odd when I think about the first time I went on stage and tried to do a joke and 40 years later, I’m still doing it in Vegas and it’s amazing,” he told The Blast. “I think that’s why I think this part of the journey is probably the most fun because you kind of embrace it, stand back and think, oh my God, take it in for a second.”

Talking About His Long Career In Comedy

Forty years in comedy is quite the feat, and Thompson has worked hard to keep the show evolving and changing throughout the years. Advances in technology have helped him continue to evolve the show. Years ago, the video wall behind Carrot Top as he performs just showed his logo, but now, he uses the wall as a visual aid and reference rather than just holding up a prop during some jokes.

“I’ll just point to the screen behind me, and it comes up so they get the joke without me having to go through the whole process of making it and building it,” he told The Blast. “There’s stand-up, visual video wall, props, tons and tons of music, lighting, strobe lights, fog, snow, I mean, I’ve known from day one I didn’t want to be a stand-up comic. I want to be something different. I want to be a rock-and-roll show, yet I want it to be funny, but I want people to think they’re at a rock show.”
