Now that the dust is settling on the Maximum Pleasure Guaranteed series premiere, it’s fair to say that the series is pulling no punches.
The first two episodes were bursting with thrilling moments, but one of the most shocking was Trevor’s death.
Going into the premiere, I figured Brandon Flynn would be around for the entirety of Maximum Pleasure Guaranteed Season 1.
In an exclusive interview with TV Fanatic, the actor opened up about Trevor’s shocking demise and admitted he was “bummed” when he learned his character’s fate.
“I was bummed, you know?” Flynn shared with TV Fanatic.
“Obviously, I wanted to keep playing with everybody, which I think I finagled flashbacks in. I was like, ‘I think there should be flashbacks.’”
Still, Flynn understood why the series needed such an early shock.
“My mouth was wide open when I read that,” he continued. “I could intuit that it would be really exciting for an audience to have that twist.”
According to Flynn, Trevor’s death immediately signals that no one is safe moving forward on the Apple TV series.
“As an audience member, you suddenly don’t feel safe because you’re like, ‘Oh, shit. What?” he said.
“It’s kind of the Game of Thrones effect where you’re like, ‘Oh my God, now anything could happen.’”
He added that the twist reshapes viewers’ investment in every character for the rest of the season.
“If that person’s not safe, this person that we’ve invested in and gotten to know, then it kind of lays everything open,” Flynn explained.
“The show does a great job of keeping you on the edge of what’s gonna happen and whether all these people will survive.”
Trevor was killed off by his love interest, Dennis, played by the incomparable Murray Bartlett.
There are undoubtedly a wealth of questions on viewers’ minds about Dennis and why he carried out the brutal slaying, but I was curious about what he thought about the character.
Bartlett discussed bringing the deeply unsettling Dennis to life and why the character’s unpredictability became one of the most exciting parts of the role.
“It was really awesome and fun, believe it or not,” Bartlett said with a laugh.
“I know that’s probably the wrong word to use for someone who has so much darkness in him.”
Bartlett explained that Dennis constantly adapts himself depending on who he’s interacting with, which should make for an exciting character going forward.
“He’s such a chameleon,” Bartlett shared.
“He’s always changing to suit who he’s with and his agenda.”
That shifting personality ultimately made Dennis even more unnerving to portray.
“You don’t have to work as much to make the character menacing because the fact that he’s changing all the time and morphing into these different versions of himself is unsettling in itself,” Bartlett added.
“It’s cool for an actor,” Bartlett affirmed.
I’ve already screened the majority of Maximum Pleasure Guaranteed and can promise that Dennis becomes more menacing as the show progresses.
There’s an air of unpredictability around him, and, considering he figured out Paula was the person who escaped the murder scene, it’s fair to assume he’ll be going after her.
