Belgium didn’t just knock the United States out of the FIFA World Cup, it made sure the Americans wouldn’t forget the defeat anytime soon.

After cruising to a commanding 4-1 victory on U.S. soil, the Red Devils celebrated with a dance that instantly reignited one of the tournament’s biggest controversies before delivering another brutal jab on social media.

The result ended the USMNT’s World Cup run, while Belgium turned an already emotional knockout clash into one of the competition’s most talked-about moments.

Belgium and USA entered the Round of 16 with plenty to prove, but by the final whistle, the Red Devils had produced one of their most convincing performances of the tournament while sending the host nation crashing out of the World Cup.

Charles De Ketelaere wasted little time putting Belgium in control, opening the scoring just nine minutes into the contest and immediately forcing the United States onto the back foot.

The hosts briefly found hope when Malik Tillman leveled the match with a direct kick in the 31st minute, but the momentum disappeared almost as quickly as it arrived.

Just two minutes later, De Ketelaere restored Belgium’s advantage, setting the tone for a relentless second half.

Hans Vanaken capitalized on a costly mistake from U.S. goalkeeper Matt Freese to extend the lead before Romelu Lukaku delivered the final blow deep into stoppage time, sealing an emphatic 4-1 victory.

Belgium And USA Drama Explodes After Donald Trump Dance Celebration

The scoreline alone would have generated headlines, but Belgium’s celebration quickly became just as memorable as the victory itself.

Moments after Lukaku scored the team’s fourth goal, he and several teammates gathered together to perform the now-famous Donald Trump dance, a celebration that immediately sparked conversation across social media because of the political controversy surrounding the match.

Belgium’s memorable celebration was the latest chapter in a controversy that had been brewing for days after U.S. striker Folarin Balogun’s one-match suspension was overturned ahead of the knockout clash.

Recall that Balogun had initially been ruled out after receiving a red card in the United States’ previous World Cup match against Bosnia & Herzegovina.

However, FIFA later suspended the ban, allowing the American forward to return for the Round of 16. The decision quickly became one of the tournament’s biggest talking points after President Trump weighed in publicly, while Belgian officials questioned both the ruling and the process behind it.

When Trump was later asked about speaking with FIFA president Gianni Infantino, he insisted he had not instructed the governing body to reverse the suspension. He revealed the committee made the decision, which he described as the right one.

Belgium Trolls USA  After Earlier FIFA Eligibility Dispute

The postgame celebrations didn’t end on the field. Shortly after the final whistle, Belgium’s official X account posted a photo of Lukaku alongside the blunt message, “Overturn this.”

The remark reflected frustrations that had been building inside Belgian soccer circles for days. Before kickoff, the Royal Belgian Football Association publicly questioned FIFA’s decision to reinstate Balogun without providing the explanation Belgian officials believed they were entitled to receive.

“To date, the RBFA has still not received any grounds for this decision, nor has it received the information it has been requesting since the start of this procedure for a copy of this decision and the motivation declaring the player eligible as well as the referee’s report,” the federation said.

It continued by calling the situation “a breach of FIFA regulations” and revealed it had informed U.S. Soccer that it disputed Balogun’s eligibility should his name appear on the official team sheet, adding that “This leaves all further actions open.”

Belgium And USA Renew A World Cup Rivalry More Than A Decade In The Making

Long before politics, appeals and viral celebrations dominated the conversation, Belgium and the United States had already produced one of the most memorable knockout matches in World Cup history.

Their previous meeting came in the Round of 16 at the 2014 tournament in Brazil, when Belgium ended the Americans’ run with a dramatic 2-1 victory after extra time.

The match became famous less for the result than for the unforgettable display by U.S. goalkeeper Tim Howard, whose 16 saves remain the most by any goalkeeper in a single World Cup match.

That night also marked another memorable chapter for Lukaku, who came off the bench to score Belgium’s second goal in extra time after Kevin De Bruyne had broken the deadlock.

Julian Green pulled one back for the United States, but Belgium held on to reach the quarterfinals, cementing what has become one of the most recognizable knockout meetings between the two nations.

Belgium Turns USA Statement Win Into Massive Spain Showdown

With the United States eliminated, Belgium’s attention now shifts to an even bigger challenge as the Red Devils prepare to face Spain in the World Cup quarterfinals.

The matchup pits two European heavyweights against each other after Belgium navigated a difficult path through the knockout stage, first edging Senegal before eliminating the host nation.

Rather than dwelling on the controversy that surrounded the Round of 16, Belgium now has the opportunity to prove its title credentials against one of the tournament favorites.

The meeting also revives a familiar European rivalry between two nations that have frequently crossed paths in major international competitions.

Spain has long been regarded as one of the world’s premier possession-based teams, while Belgium’s current generation continues to lean on experienced stars capable of punishing opponents in transition.
