A beach confrontation that erupted into a viral knockout is generating even more attention after the man who punched a Hawaii congressional candidate unconscious shared his version of events.
The incident, which began as a dispute over loud music, has quickly spiraled into allegations of threats, a knife being pulled, and competing accounts now at the center of a felony case.

The confrontation unfolded Saturday at Keawakapu Beach, where Hawaii Congress candidate Kirill Basin became involved in a heated dispute with several beachgoers after a 61-year-old man reportedly complained about loud music.
According to Kama Homan, the disagreement escalated rapidly. He alleged that Basin threatened to shoot the older man’s wife, claimed he had a gun, and later produced a knife as tensions intensified.
Video of the encounter showed Basin approaching members of the group while saying, “Put your bag away, bro. Put your bag away.” With music by the Pixies playing in the background, he also declared, “I told him if he wants to go to the hospital, come here.”
For a brief moment, the confrontation appeared to cool down. Basin shook hands with one of the beachgoers and said, “It is over.” However, the pause was short-lived.

The situation escalated further when a woman called him “a child.” According to the criminal complaint, Basin responded by threatening to “put [her] in the ground” and “in the hospital” before walking away while calling her a derogatory name.
Homan said he had been watching the confrontation from a distance before deciding he needed to step in. “I’m like, maybe I should intervene,” he told Hawaii News Now, adding, “As I got closer and closer, he was just getting more irate and violent.”
According to Homan, he heard the Hawaii congress candidate making repeated threats toward people gathered on the beach, including comments like, “I’m going to hurt you” or “I can injure you” or “You like to scrap to the aunties.”

“He put his hands on me and as soon as he tried to shove me, I hit him with a left and a right. That’s when he stumbled and fell over the chairs,” Homan explained.
Afterward, Homan walked over and repeatedly urged Basin to “wake up.” Once Basin regained consciousness, Homan said the congressional hopeful remarked that he was “going to jail” before charging toward him again while yelling obscenities.
According to Fox News, authorities have charged Basin with two counts of first-degree terroristic threatening, with the criminal complaint alleging he threatened multiple people during the beach confrontation.
One of the felony counts specifically accuses him of threatening Homan with a knife. The Hawaii congressional candidate appeared in court on Tuesday in handcuffs and remains behind bars on $1 million bail. His attorney, Brandon Segal, argued that the amount was excessive.
“These are just allegations. My client has a presumption of innocence,” Segal said. He also challenged one of the central claims in the case, insisting there is no proof Basin possessed a weapon during the confrontation.
“There’s no evidence in any of these videos that have been circulated tremendously that he ever had a knife in his possession. He never had a firearm in his possession,” Segal argued.
Despite the objections, the judge left the $1 million bail unchanged and ordered that, if released, Basin have no contact with Homan or four other individuals.
Additional conditions include staying away from Keawakapu Beach and its parking lot, possessing no firearms or ammunition, avoiding drugs and alcohol, submitting to random drug testing, and completing a mental health assessment with any recommended treatment.
The viral clip quickly sparked a flood of reactions on Instagram, with many viewers praising the man seen confronting the Hawaii congress candidate.
