Blake Lively’s legal battle with Justin Baldoni has created a new concern in Hollywood: what happens when private conversations become public evidence?

Newly unsealed messages involving Ryan Reynolds have reportedly left entertainment insiders questioning whether their own communications could surface in future legal disputes.

The controversy has also raised questions about the couple’s standing among industry heavyweights, with some insiders suggesting that professional relationships may now carry risks they previously never considered.

The latest court disclosures have brought renewed attention to the private conversations surrounding Blake Lively’s dispute with Justin Baldoni, particularly messages involving Ryan Reynolds and Sony Pictures.

According to records obtained by the Daily Mail, Reynolds criticised the studio in a conversation with talent agent Warren Zavala over how it handled the backlash against his wife during the promotion of “It Ends With Us.”

“[Sony] need[s] to frame it the right way! This isn’t hard… They just need to go f***ing straight at this,” Reynolds wrote.

He continued, “They have to stop bullsh***ing us and get in front of this.” Zavala responded, “They are covering their a**. It’s about exposure.”

The messages have raised concerns that litigation could expose private exchanges between Hollywood figures. A veteran casting director quoted by the Daily Mail described the prospect as particularly unsettling.

“Nobody wants their private texts appearing in the next lawsuit. Executives have careers to protect, too,” the source told Rob Shuter.

The latest disclosures also recall another sensitive episode from Blake Lively’s legal dispute: messages that appeared to reference her former close friend Taylor Swift.

Lively allegedly described the singer as one of her “dragons” while communicating with Baldoni, writing, “I happen to have a few dragons. For better or worse, but usually for better. Because my dragons also protect those I fight for. So really, we all benefit from those gorgeous monsters of mine. You will too, I can promise you.”

Swift was subsequently served with a subpoena during the legal proceedings. A source close to the singer told Rob Shuter at the time that she “wanted to keep as much distance from the controversy as possible.”

The situation drew renewed attention to a friendship that had once been publicly prominent. Swift was known to be close to Lively and had been described as the godmother of Lively’s daughters. However, the reported messages and subpoena drew her into a dispute she had not publicly sought to lead.

Beyond the legal disclosures, the controversy has raised questions about how Hollywood perceives Lively and Reynolds.

Industry sources suggested that some executives and entertainment professionals have become more cautious about associating with the couple.

“Two years ago, having Blake and Ryan at your party made you look important. Today, having them there might make people uncomfortable,” one Los Angeles party planner said.

A veteran casting director described a similar shift in professional circles, saying the concern was no longer simply about the couple’s talent. “The question isn’t whether Blake and Ryan are talented. It’s whether working with them comes with complications,” the source admitted.

Even so, the insiders did not suggest the couple had permanently lost their place in the industry. Hollywood’s commercial instincts could quickly outweigh its current reservations if either star delivers a major success.

“Give Ryan another Deadpool-sized blockbuster or Blake a major hit and watch what happens,” another informant stated, adding, “The executives who are nervous today will be fighting to have dinner with them tomorrow.”

The fallout from Blake Lively’s legal battle with Baldoni extended beyond Hollywood’s private conversations.

A federal judge awarded the actress $407,451.75 in legal fees and litigation costs, far below the more than $8 million she had requested after Baldoni’s defamation lawsuit was dismissed.

According to The Blast, Lively sought approximately $7.5 million in attorneys’ fees and another $539,514 in litigation costs. On August 26, U.S. District Judge Lewis J. Liman partially granted her request, awarding $363,245.40 in attorneys’ fees and $44,206.35 in costs.

Baldoni’s attorney, Bryan Freedman, described the reduced award as a victory for his client. “The ruling is a significant victory for my client,” Freedman revealed. He also called Lively’s original request “outrageous and unreasonable.”

Lively’s attorneys, Esra Hudson and Michael Gottlieb, argued that the award still represented an important outcome for their client. They stated, “As we have said from day one, Blake Lively’s case was never about money, it was about accountability.”

The financial dispute over Lively’s legal fees was one consequence of the case. Another emerged when former Daily Mail entertainment reporter James Vituscka sued the newspaper, alleging that his involvement in the Lively–Baldoni litigation led to retaliation by his employer.

The Blast explained that Vituscka had covered the “It Ends With Us” controversy and communicated with representatives on both sides. His private messages subsequently became part of the court record, drawing scrutiny to his reporting and his interactions with people connected to the dispute.

In his lawsuit, filed in Manhattan Supreme Court, Vituscka alleged that the newspaper changed his working conditions and ultimately terminated his employment in June 2025. He also claimed he was pressured to sign a declaration containing language he was uncomfortable with.

In addition, Vituscka alleged wrongful termination and retaliation, among other claims, while arguing that the newspaper’s treatment of him was connected to his involvement in the high-profile case.

The Daily Mail rejected his allegations, describing his claims as meritless and maintaining that his declaration was consistent with statements he had previously made.
