It might have felt like an age since it was announced, but the release of Toy Story 5 is finally upon us.

With the return of the likes of Woody (Tom Hanks), Buzz Lightyear (Tim Allen) and Jessie (Joan Cusack), the latest instalment of the popular Disney films introduces a few new characters.

Conan O’Brien joins the crew as a potty-training toy named Smarty Pants as well as Greta Lee voicing an antagonistic tablet named Lilypad as the animation features a ‘Toy meets Tech’ storyline.

And LADbible can now reveal that also joining the Toy Story 5 line-up is the iconic Alan Cumming, who will be voicing Bullseye. The Traitors US host says it’s an ‘incredible honour’ to be joining the universe as he says he’s ‘so happy and proud and in disbelief’.

Until now, the trusty steed has never had a voice before so that was ‘obviously a big decision’ for Cumming and the team about ‘what voice to give him’.

“So we went around the houses a bit before we settled on the one we’re using,” he explains.

“But the circumstances of him talking — once you see the film — will make you understand why we had quite a broad church to choose from.”

The actor does add to fans: “Well, I would say don’t expect too much, as it is a cameo, but it is quite exciting as this character has never had a voice before.”

In Toy Story 5, Bullseye is ready at eight-year-old Bonnie’s side to help her navigate whatever this next chapter of life may bring.

However, he and Sheriff Jessie are suddenly separated from the gang and Bullseye must saddle up ‘to find out what it means to really be there for your kid’.

Cumming explains that he did one session in a studio with the creators on Zoom to record his part, and didn’t meet any of the other actors.

“Voice work is pretty much the same wherever you do it and on what scale,” the star adds.

“I really like it as it makes you really focus on the nuance and timbre of your voice and your accent, and even your breathing. Obviously you don’t have to get all made up and into a costume, and sometimes you can do it from your bed!”

With Woody as his favourite character, Cumming ‘adored’ the previous Toy Story films and ‘never expected’ to end up a part of it himself.

“It’s going to give me great kudos with my friends’ kids to be in this one,” he adds.

Toy Story 5 lands in UK cinemas on 19 June 2026.
