POLL: Which Horror Movie Slasher Will Eclipse Them All—And Which One’s Just a Ghost in the Machine?

So here we are, fresh off the unsettling thrill ride that is The Black Phone 2 — yeah, the one that somehow resurrects The Grabber after Ethan Hawke’s creepy kidnapper got iced for good. Now, I’m no psychic, but with Mercury in retrograde playing havoc on timelines, maybe even slasher legends can’t stay dead. It’s like Blumhouse decided to blend The Grabber with a dash of Freddy Krueger’s nightmare mojo, and bam, suddenly the genre’s buzzing again louder than a Scorpio’s mood swings on a full moon night. Looking back, the ’80s gave us Freddy and Jason — iconic bad guys who made Halloween feel like a family reunion no one wanted. Then the ’90s flipped the script into these whodunnits that had us all guessing who the masked maniac really was — Ghostface sniffing around in Scream, and The Fisherman lurking in the shadows. Lately, a gory resurrection has been brewing — thanks to characters like Art the Clown from Terrifier reminding us how good old-fashioned slashers punch a hole in our comfort zones. So, with Blumhouse pitching The Grabber as their fresh twist on the whole shebang, I gotta ask: who really owns the crown as the ultimate slasher king or queen? I tossed a few curveballs into this mix — left The Fisherman in the cold, but Ghostface? Had to let him crash the party… after all, he’s legendary, even if it’s not just one killer behind the mask. Plus, I slipped in some vintage horrors like Norman Bates and Leatherface, who are getting their own glow-up thanks to the buzz around Netflix’s Ed Gein series. Ready to pick your poison? Cast your vote, and let’s settle this age-old debate once and for all. LEARN MORE

This weekend, Blumhouse released The Black Phone 2. Given that the previous movie ended with Ethan Hawke’s child-killing slasher, The Grabber, being definitively killed, audiences were left scratching their heads when a sequel was announced featuring his return as the killer. It seemed like Blumhouse was trying to re-fashion the series into a Nightmare on Elm Street-style slasher, and to be sure, it seems like a bet that paid off, with it on track for Blumhouse’s best opening in a long time.

All that got me thinking – who are the best on-screen slashers? The eighties were full of them, with it being the heyday of Freddy Krueger and Jason Voorhees. Yet, in the nineties, the genre pivoted to more of a whodunnit, with The Fisherman in I Know What You Did Last Summer and Ghostface in the Scream movies doing away with a supernatural element, with the identity of the killer being different in each sequel. Recently, slashers seem to be making a bit of a comeback, with Terrifier’s Art the Clown being the first real, classic slasher we’ve seen in quite some time. With The Grabber likely intended to be Blumhouse’s new entry into the genre, we want to know, who do you think is the best slasher?

Now, about this list – initially I was going to leave Ghostface off as this isn’t one killer but rather several. But, the fact is Ghostface is just too iconic not to put on the list (although I left off The Fisherman). I also included some older slashers, such as Norman Bates and Leatherface, both of him nicely fit into the genre (and are getting extra attention thanks to Netflix’s Ed Gein series).

So which slasher is the best? Take the poll and let us know!
