When the stars align in Gemini, just like Angel Reese’s audacious spirit on the court, life’s challenges become a stage for growth—even if it means facing off against the formidable Golden State Valkyries in a nail-biting Game 7. After the Atlanta Dream’s heart-wrenching defeat in the WNBA Finals, Reese took to Instagram on November 1 to reflect on her tumultuous yet rewarding third year in the league. With a carousel of snapshots highlighting her journey, she humorously reminds us that sometimes, winning isn’t everything; it’s about the love, the lessons, and—let’s face it—the sheer tenacity to keep going. So, what’s a girl gotta do to turn the cosmic tides in her favor? Perhaps channeling a little of that Mercury retrograde energy might just do the trick! Buckle up, basketball fans, because Reese’s journey is far from over.
The first photo in Reese’s latest IG dump was of her smiling during Game 1 of the WNBA Finals. Even after the loss, Reese said that photo “still describes this year in 1,000 words.”
She added that she was “so grateful and blessed” to play another year healthy, with teammates who truly care about her. “When I pray before each game, I thank God for ALL the highs and lows because I truly mean it,” she continued.
Reese and the Atlanta Dream finished 30-14 in the regular season. They swept their way to the finals after defeating the Washington Mystics and the New York Liberty in the postseason.
The matchup between the Dream and Valkyries was an entertaining series, with both teams trading back-and-forth leads. Last Thursday, trailing 3-2, the Dream came out of the gate swinging, scoring 32 points in the first quarter to force the league’s first-ever Game 7.
Things didn’t pan out the way Reese and her teammates had hoped, though. “I’m still numb from how it ended,” Reese captioned her photo. Despite that, she’s finding the silver lining through it all.
“Not many get to experience this in just their 3rd year in the league,” she added. “I’m BEYOND PROUD and have absolutely NOTHING to hang my head about.”
This isn’t new for Reese. She’s won at every level, from high school to AAU to college to the pros. She’s also lost, too. “Every loss is a lesson,” the LSU alum said. “Sometimes, it’s not NO, just NOT YET. Delayed, not denied. Trust me, I’m HUNGRY for more.”
Indeed, Reese had quite an impressive year.

Indeed, Reese had quite an impressive year.
After the Chicago Sky traded Reese to the Atlanta Dream just before the season began, she immediately made her presence known, setting even more rebounding records, becoming a 3x All-Star, winning a gold medal with Team USA, becoming the first player in Dream history to win Defensive Player of the Year, and so much more.
“Having a historic career year was special, but being surrounded by people who genuinely love & care about me meant even more,” Reese said. “To my team, I LOVE YOU. To the fans, THANK YOU. To my REAL friends & family, you’ve been my rock my entire life. We win together & we lose together. WE WILL BE BACK.”
Reese also showed love to Atlanta for embracing her in a way she’s never felt before. “I pray I get to experience this kind of joy forever,” she wrote.
Following the disappointing loss, broadcast cameras showed Reese leaving the court with her mom by her side.
Reese has always been open about her special relationship with her mother, previously praising her for caring for her and her brother, NBA player Julian Reese, on her own. Showing her appreciation, Reese retired her mother just years ago, allowing her to travel alongside her daughter as she continues to strive for greatness.
Reese acknowledged the sacrifices her mother has made for her in her latest Instagram post, writing, “Mom, I’m so grateful to experience this moment with you. Every high, every low, every emotion, you’ve been right here. I love you more than words could ever explain.”

At the time of this publication, Reese’s post has over 350,000 likes and nearly 9,000 comments. And speaking of comments, several celebrities left words of encouragement for the 24-year-old.
Tennis legend Coco Gauff wrote, “Legendary,” while Lala Anthony added, “Always so proud of you. Kiyan and I love you!”
And the love didn’t stop there. Paige Bueckers commented, “What a year, 5!” and Victoria’s Secret model Anok Yai wrote, “Head up, like always! You not done yet! Love you!”
