Lil Yachty has his eye on the sneaker world…and oh, what a world it is! With trends shifting faster than a horoscope reading on a full moon, it seems our favorite rapper is ready to sprinkle some of his unique flair onto the iconic Air Jordan lineup. When asked about his dream collaboration, he could have gone with the tried-and-true favorites like the Air Jordan 5 or 6, but no—Yachty’s set his sights on the somewhat underrated Air Jordan 21. Why this particular model, you might ask? Well, beneath its bold red Italian suede exterior lies a history and character that deserve a fresh spotlight. Just like today’s astrological influences, which might encourage you to embrace your inner visionary, Yachty is stepping up to reimagine a classic that deserves its moment in the sun once more. So let’s dive into why this collab could be a match made in sneaker heaven!
Lil Yachty is already deep into the sneaker world. Now he has revealed which Air Jordan he wants to collab on next. His answer was the Air Jordan 21.
Yachty said he would be interested in working on the Air Jordan 5 or Air Jordan 6, but he specifically pointed to the all-red Air Jordan 21 as his pick.
He said he loves the shoe, and he explained that it is not as simple as it looks. That makes sense when you look at the design. The 21 uses a full red Italian suede upper, with black and white lines running through the sides and chrome details around the sole.
It was designed by D’Wayne Edwards and released in February 2006 during NBA All-Star Weekend. The shoe was inspired by the Bentley Continental GT Coupe, which explains the luxury touches.
Yachty has also shown he is a Jordan fan. He previously showed off a Levi’s x Air Jordan 3 sample, and he has been seen in rare Jordans for years.
His taste also leans toward bold designs. The Air Force 1 Mid he released at ComplexCon used a yellow croc-embossed upper and a Concrete Boys logo on the heel, so a loud red suede pair would fit him well.
The Air Jordan 21 has not received as much attention as some other models. A collab could bring it back into the conversation and give younger fans a fresh look at a less talked-about design.
Jordan Brand also has a history of letting artists reimagine unusual models. Nigel Sylvester and Infinite Archives both found success with less known silhouettes.
Nothing is planned, and Jordan Brand has not responded to the idea. Overall, Yachty’s choice is a smart one. It is a luxury design, it has a bold color, and it leaves plenty of room for creativity.
