The incident also unfolded during a workday for Cavallari, whose business and family life have been rooted in Tennessee for years.
Kristin Cavallari was cited following an October 14 incident in which an officer alleged she drove 88 mph in a 70 mph zone, according to TMZ.
She had been driving a black Porsche 911 when, the officer reported, she passed another motorist in the number one lane.
The citation revealed that Cavallari told the officer she was headed to work. The television personality operates a Nashville retail location for her brand, Uncommon James, making the trip part of her business routine.
The October report renewed attention to an earlier traffic stop in Illinois. In September 2013, Kristin Cavallari was pulled over in Evanston after police reportedly accused her of speeding.
As ABC7 reported, the stop also raised a separate issue: she was driving with a California license, although authorities believed she was subject to Illinois’ resident-driver requirements.
Cavallari was living in the Chicago area at the time, while maintaining that she still had a residence in California.
Illinois required people who established residency in the state to obtain an Illinois driver’s license after a specified period.
Following the stop, the fashion designer was reportedly escorted to a police station to post bond over the license matter.
She objected to the treatment publicly on Twitter, writing, “Who knew having a California drivers license in Illinois was a CRIME to be escorted to the police station to post bail?!! What a morning”. She then explained her position: “FYI…I still have an apartment in LA so I’m a resident of California.”
Nearly three years later, Cavallari made headlines again due to another driving situation. In January 2026, she was hospitalized after another driver struck her vehicle in Chicago.

She recalled, “He literally had to put her on my boob. He even had to help me pump in the hospital after the accident.”
In October 2024, Cutler was arrested in Tennessee after a traffic accident and charged with driving under the influence.
Reports revealed that his vehicle had been involved in a collision with another car. Police described signs they believed indicated impairment, and Cutler faced additional charges related to the incident.
Cavallari addressed the arrest on her podcast, “Let’s Be Honest,” explaining that the episode being released had been recorded before the news broke.
In her words, “Really quickly, just before we get into the episode, I wanted to hop on here and just let you guys know that this episode was recorded right before a very public incident happened last week with my ex-husband.”
She then offered a brief statement about Cutler, saying, “I do, of course, wish Jay nothing but the best, and I do hope that he gets the help that he needs.”
