Tina Fey On Aging And Body Changes In Her 50s

From Halle Berry to Gwyneth Paltrow, more and more celebs in their 50s and 60s are opening up about the unexpected changes that come with aging and menopause.

And now, the latest famous face to join the conversation is the wonderful and hilarious Tina Fey.

For context, Tina has never been one to shy away from an honest conversation about aging, having previously said that getting older as a woman in Hollywood is “a glorious act of bravery.”

With that in mind, navigating age is a central theme in her Netflix show, The Four Seasons, which is based on the 1980s film of the same name. And in a new interview with Today, Tina — who writes and acts on the show — talked about how she and her creative team aren’t afraid to delve into their own personal experiences when it comes to writing jokes about their mortality.

“We’re all pretty much the same age,” said Tina, who is 56. “Almost all of us have known each other a super long time, and so all the writers are really good about sharing their own things. Then sometimes our spouses are like, ‘Is that me?’ And then we’ll usually just be like, ‘No, no.’ We’ll just lie and say, ‘That’s so and so.'”

There’s one specific joke in the show about Tina’s character, Kate, being “a middle-aged woman with dry skin,” which turns out to be an age-related bodily change that Tina is familiar with IRL.

“I feel like it’s a reverse puberty in a way,” Tina told Today, talking about life in her 50s. “It’s like your body starts to change and be disgusting in new ways.”

She continued: “When you’re 12 or 13, you’re like, ‘Why am I so oily?’ And now you’re like, ‘Why am I so papery?'”

Tina, you’re not alone! You can find the Today interview here, and The Four Seasons is available to watch now on Netflix.
