The Duke and Duchess of Sussex are said to be working on the new feature film in collaboration with Matt Charman, despite rumors that their relationship with the global streamer had cooled after their deal was downgraded to a “first look” arrangement.
The reported project also comes ahead of the couple’s wedding anniversary next week, amid claims that they are planning a vow renewal reportedly linked to a reality TV-style show in the pipeline.
Harry and Meghan, under their Archewell Productions banner, are reportedly developing a feature film adaptation of the bestselling Afghanistan war memoir, “No Way Out: The Searing True Story of Men Under Siege,” for Netflix, per Deadline.
The book tells the story of “Easy Company,” a hastily assembled, understrength unit of British Paratroopers and Royal Irish Rangers tasked with holding a strategic district in Helmand province during the war.
They soon found themselves completely cut off, heavily outnumbered, and subjected to 21 days of relentless assaults by the Taliban. Published in 2019 by Major Adam Jowett, who led the unit, the book provides a firsthand account of the 2006 battle and is now reportedly being adapted for the screen by Harry and Meghan.
In the book, Jowett describes what it feels like to carry responsibility for the lives of men facing death, with the odds of survival near zero. However, just as they came down to their last rounds of ammunition and death seemed inevitable, things took a turn.
