Ever notice how when the stars align for a new moon, it’s not just about fresh starts and cosmic clean slates? Sometimes, it’s when the trolls come out to play, poking at someone’s new ‘look’ like they’ve got a cosmic license to judge. Take Selena Gomez, who recently unveiled a bold visual vibe in her Netflix-backed video for ‘In the Dark’—only to get slammed by online critics fixated on her face and rumors of Botox or surgery. Now, Grimes steps into the ring, wielding words sharper than a Mercury retrograde comeback, fiercely defending Selena against what she calls ‘high school level bullying’ that’s just plain toxic. It’s got me wondering—if the universe teaches us resilience and rebirth, why do we keep circling the same old negativity? Oh, and by the way, Selena’s sharing her own real talk on handling the mental whirlwind. Curious to see the whole celestial drama unfold? LEARN MORE.
Grimes has backed fellow singer Selena Gomez after she was ‘bullied’ by trolls following the release of her new track.
Gomez is said to have debuted a ‘new look’ in the music video for ‘In the Dark’, which came out last week for Netflix’s second series of Nobody Wants This.
Gomez unfortunately often faces critique of her appearance, with this first solo song in over a year leading to more of that.
People are wrongfully honing in on the 33-year-old’s facial features, accusing her of having too much ‘surgery’ or Botox.
The Disney star has been open about dealing with a lot of negative comments on social media about her appearance, while also discussing living with autoimmune disease, Lupus, which can lead to changes in her appearance.

And Grimes has now spoken out hugely in her defence, as she took to Twitter to say after ‘like 48 hours’ on the internet, she ‘might have to leave’.
“Watched this Selena Gomez video, besides a few weird derp shots that ppl were able to clip and super misrepresent how she looks she looks extremely beautiful, is prob one of the most beautiful girls,” the Canadian wrote.
“Imagine what it wud feel like if people talked about you this way. Try to imagine the mental fortitude she presumably has. How do we not utterly morally castigate someone who has a post like this blows up and chooses to keep the clout at the expense of everybody’s mental health. How do u think little girls feel reading stuff like this about another woman?”

Grimes said it should ‘not be ok to do high school level bullying’.
The ex of Elon Musk, the owner of Twitter, continued: “Accounts shud be suspended for body shaming en masse. This is disturbing – in part because it’s not even true if u actually watch this video.”
Grimes went on to say she has ‘no context’ as to ‘what celebrities do’ but that she believes ‘this place is unhealthy as f**k’.
“This being socially acceptable behaviour is culture death – not just for the Selena or the writer but everyone who sees this and engages with this level of dehumanization,” she added.
Gomez previously said during the On Purpose with Jay Shetty podcast that she’s just ‘human’.
“So of course sometimes I read things, but I do most of the time ignore everything,” she added. “There are ways to combat it – I understand the power of what social media is, it’s just tricky.”
