Liam Payne’s girlfriend, Kate Cassidy, is in the eye of a storm following her latest Halloween-themed social media post, which has ignited a wave of backlash online. It seems like every time the lunar phase shifts, the universe offers us a chance to reevaluate who we are and what we wish to project into the cosmos. But for Cassidy, who has been under scrutiny since the tragic passing of the former One Direction star, this moment has become quite the flashpoint. After removing a tattoo dedicated to her late partner, the stakes were high, and her recent post—initially captioned with a poignant yet provocative phrase—now faces mixed opinions, pushing the boundaries of grieving and celebration.
As we all know, Halloween can often blur the lines between thrill and chill, and sometimes, it feels like a cosmic joke at our expense. Some commenters think her costume is a grim tribute to Liam’s untimely end, while others see it as just another spooky outfit for the season. The duality of this thorny issue reflects the energetic debates swirling in the celestial heavens—where is the line drawn between personal expression and sensitivity to tragedy? It’s a story that delves deep into love, loss, and navigating the murky waters of social media response.
So, what do the stars have to say about Cassidy’s decisions? Will she follow her heart, or will the universe redirect her course? Only time—and a few more posts—will tell!

Liam Payne’s girlfriend is facing backlash online over a controversial Halloween-themed post.
Kate Cassidy has come in for a large amount of criticism in the two years since the former One Direction star’s death in Argentina, particularly when the 27-year-old removed a tattoo dedicated to her former partner.
She later clarified that she was undergoing laser treatment to remove the tattoo because it was ‘done poorly’ and she didn’t like the placement, and was intending for the ink to be ‘redone eventually’.
The internet personality had left Buenos Aires before Payne tragically passed away. She told The Sun last year: “I genuinely believed we were soulmates; he was the most humble, charming, normal person you could ever hope to come across.”
However, her decision to delete and then re-upload a social media post where she’s covered in blood ahead of Halloween this weekend has drawn widespread criticism.
She initially wrote ‘and she died of a broken heart’, as her caption but after re-uploading her post on Instagram she instead opted for ‘Bloody Mary’, but it’s still split opinion among those in the comment section.
One wrote: “If I was a member of Liams family and I saw this, I’d be heartbroken.
“As a grown woman, you’re more than capable of making your own decisions in life, but that doesn’t always mean that the decisions you make will be the right ones and on this occasion, this was a terrible, terrible decision.”
A second posted: “Nobody in the comments said she isn’t allowed to celebrate Halloween, so stop being ridiculous. The point is that the costume bears a resemblance to the circumstances surrounding Liam’s death, and she knows exactly what happened to her boyfriend. Not everything has to be an exact replica for people to find it insensitive.”
However, others spoke out in defence of the influencer to suggest that her costume isn’t related to Payne’s death – with blood constituting a large part of many people’s costumes around scary season.

One user penned: “So because her boyfriend passed away she’s not allowed to dress up for Halloween? Pls everyone relax. I would imagine he’d be annoyed at these comments.”
Another added: “It’s just another Halloween post… Just calm down.”
The Halloween post came just days after Cassidy had shared a touching tribute to Payne on the second anniversary of his death, in which she shared the couple’s last video together.
She captioned the post: “Treasure every moment with the people that you love. Until the next life. I’ll see you again one day.”
When Payne passed away in 2024, Cassidy shared an emotional tribute to the singer on her Instagram page.
She wrote: “Thank you for all the kind words and love that has been sent my way. I have been at a complete loss.
“Nothing about the past few days have felt real. I ask and pray that you’ll give me the grace and space to navigate this in private.
“Liam, my angel. You are everything. I want you to know I loved you unconditionally and completely. I will continue to love you for the rest of my life. I love you Liam.”
