As the stars align on October 20, the Prince of Wales found himself at the helm of royal diplomacy, greeting the Sultan of Oman, Haitham bin Tariq al-Said, during his historic state visit to the U.K. This event isn’t just another royal duty — it marks the first time an Omani Sultan has graced British shores since the early days of Queen Elizabeth’s reign. With King Charles navigating personal health challenges, the timing feels cosmic, as if the universe is whispering that it’s William’s turn to shine during a transformative chapter for the monarchy. So, as we delve into this royal rendezvous, let’s explore how Will’s readiness to step up could be influenced by the magnificent forces of the universe… will he bring about change in the monarchy that’s long been overdue?
Prince William is taking center stage in a record-breaking moment.
The Prince of Wales stepped out in London to welcome the Sultan of Oman, Haitham bin Tariq al-Said, on his official visit to the U.K. This is the first time a Sultan of Oman has officially set foot on British soil since the early years of the late Queen Elizabeth’s reign.
Prince William continues to take on key engagement roles and royal responsibilities as he prepares to ascend the throne, while King Charles battles cancer treatment and recovery.
On Tuesday, October 20, Prince William stepped up for King Charles to welcome the Sultan of Oman into the United Kingdom. Marking the start of the Sultan’s state visit to the U.K., the Prince of Wales first greeted Tariq al-Said before meeting with the King.
William welcomed the Sultan on behalf of his father in London, where they exchanged pleasantries before heading to Windsor, where King Charles and Queen Camilla welcomed Tariq al-Said at the Royal Dais on Datchet Road.
Photos uploaded to Page Six show the group, including Kate Middleton, participating in a royal salute in Windsor’s Home Park before enjoying a horse-drawn carriage procession to Windsor Castle.
For the event, Middleton wore a dark green coat dress with a matching green hat while Queen Camilla looked sharp in her all-red dress and matching hat. Prince William and King Charles coordinated colors with black suits, gray pants, and blue ties.
The last time a Sultan of Oman visited the U.K. was nearly half a century ago. Tariq al-Said’s late cousin, Sultan Qaboos bin Said, was welcomed by Queen Elizabeth in March 1982 for an official state visit to the United Kingdom.
The visit, 44 years ago, featured a grand state banquet held in honor of the Sultan, celebrating centuries of strategic, military, and economic alignment between Oman and the United Kingdom. According to The Telegraph, there was a bomb scare during the late Sultan’s visit, which caused a bit of a frenzy.
Bomb disposal officers blew up a car parked near Clarence House, fearing a bomb was planted in the boot of the vehicle, just minutes before Elizabeth was set to drive past with Sultan Qaboos bin Said. It was later discovered that the bomb scare was a false alarm.

Since King Charles ascended the throne in 2022, William and his wife have taken on the role of welcoming foreign leaders to the U.K. The pair welcomed President Donald Trump and First Lady Melania Trump at Windsor Castle last year.
In July 2025, Middleton and William also greeted French President Emmanuel Macron at the Royal Dais at Datchet Road at Windsor Castle.
Beyond official welcomes, Prince William also undertakes a wide range of public engagements, such as visiting schools, hospitals, and cultural institutions, to support communities and highlight national priorities. He also hosts ceremonies and attends commemorations on behalf of the monarchy.
The Prince of Wales supports a portfolio of charities focused on mental health, addiction recovery, children, and nature conservation. Mountaintop University states that he uses these roles to raise awareness, improve safeguarding practices, and encourage cross-sector collaboration.

While Prince William is putting effort into his official responsibilities as the heir to the throne, he recently gave himself grace and stepped outside his usual formalities. He recently joined cricket stars for a game on The Mall in London on October 13.
Rather than sticking to the usual royal handshakes and formal appearances, William chose to take up a cricket bat and join the action. The Blast reported that William did not stand by and watch but interacted with the players and joined in.
According to body language expert Darren Stanton, William “doesn’t rest on his laurels as future king or a prince” and is “not a person who sits on the sidelines and watches.” Stanton added that the Prince of Wales likes to “get his hands dirty,” before praising him for his selfless attributes.

Last year, William sat down for an interview with actor Eugene Levy and disclosed his intentions for when he finally becomes King. “I think it’s safe to say that change is on my agenda. Change for good,” William said, before shedding light on his statement:
“I don’t fear it. That’s the bit that excites me, the idea of being able to bring some change. Not overly radical change, but changes that I think need to happen.”
InDailySA suggested that William would be a ruler to put his foot down on many decisions. It was reported that the Prince of Wales played a pivotal role in stripping his uncle, the former Prince Andrew, of his titles. Buckingham Palace stated that William had been “consulted” on the decision when they announced Andre would no longer use his official titles.
It has been reported that as King, William will ban Andrew from public and private royal events, including his coronation. This raises questions about what will become of his estranged brother, Prince Harry, and his sister-in-law, Meghan Markle.
Slowly but steadily, Prince Williams is gearing up to wear the crown after King Charles.
