Taylor Swift vs. Lorde: The Jaw-Dropping, Totally Different Ways They Reacted to Charli XCX’s Subtle Shade (And Astrology Might Explain It!)

Added on October 6, 2025 inMusic News Cards

Is it just me, or does the cosmos have a wicked sense of timing? Just as the stars align in Scorpio’s intense embrace—giving us all those deliciously deep and sometimes prickly vibes—along comes Charli XCX’s latest track, dripping with the raw, tangled emotions of jealousy and insecurity. You know the type—the astronomical kind of angst that makes you question every glance and every whispered word. This song dropped right after Taylor Swift’s brief dance with Matty Healy, who just so happens to be bandmates with Charli’s now-hubby George Daniel. Talk about a cosmic love triangle that’s more tangled than Mercury in retrograde! Charli’s lyrics wade into the murky waters of feeling overshadowed by another woman—a striking confession of vulnerability that’s as universal as the full moon’s pull on our hearts. And while many have rushed to paint it as a swipe at Taylor, Charli herself spins it back, pointing to her own anxiety and those ever-persistent mental narratives that love to spin out of control. Plus, when some fans took things too far with a nasty chant, Charli stepped right up to shut it down—reminding us all that spite has no place in this community. So, if you’ve ever felt the sting of comparison—from one side of the zodiac or another—this song might just hit a little too close to home. LEARN MORE.

It was released after Taylor’s brief romance with Matty Healy, who is bandmates with Charli’s now-husband, George Daniel.

The song is all about how another woman makes Charli feel inadequate, with the British star singing: “I don’t wanna share this space / I don’t wanna force a smile / This one girl taps my insecurities.”

“George says, ‘I’m just paranoid,’” she goes on. “I couldn’t even be her if I tried / I’m opposite, I’m on the other side / I feel all these feelings I can’t control.”

“Don’t wanna see her backstage at my boyfriend’s show,” the song continues. “Fingers crossed behind my back, I hope they break up quick.”

Charli was asked about the speculation that the track is about Taylor in an interview with Vulture, where she said: “People are gonna think what they want to think.” She then reiterated that the song is actually about her own insecurities above all else, explaining: “That song is about me and my feelings and my anxiety and the way my brain creates narratives and stories in my head when I feel insecure.”

It’s worth mentioning that when Charli’s fans started a disturbing chant against Taylor at a live show, she made it clear that she did not condone the behavior. She posted on her Instagram story at the time: “can the people who do this please stop. online or at my shows. it is the opposite of what i want and it disturbs me that anyone would think there is room for this in this community. i will not tolerate it.”
