The Las Vegas Aces were back at it after an exciting WNBA All-Star Weekend, hosting the Portland Fire at Michelob ULTRA Arena inside Mandalay Bay in Las Vegas on Tuesday night.
The Aces came out of the All-Star break looking like a team ready to make another push, cruising past the Portland Fire 96-82. After dropping an upsetting one-point loss to the Washington Mystics in their final game before the break, the Aces responded with a commanding performance against the expansion Fire. The win gives Vegas momentum heading into the second half of the season as the defending champions look to continue climbing the standings and build toward another postseason run.
The Aces came in hot on Tuesday night and led the entire game against the Fire. A’ja Wilson recorded a double-double with 28 points and 14 rebounds, and Jackie Young scored 25 points.
When head coach Becky Hammon was asked how she would grade the team’s overall performance during the postgame press conference, she said, “pretty good” before saying, “except for that third quarter.”
“Good job, everybody’s just trying to get back into the flow,” she added.
Many fans quickly noticed that NaLyssa Smith was missing from not only the starting lineup but also the bench, which put social media into a frenzy. When asked when Smith is expected back, Hammon said, “I’m hoping it’s maybe like a 24-hour thing. Kind of came up on her quick, took her out, so hopefully we can get a lot of fluids in her and she’ll be ready to go for New York, hopefully.”
For fans in Vegas who want to cheer on the Aces with other fans during their away games, Palms Casino Resort has scheduled three upcoming watch parties featuring giveaways, themed drink specials, and more.

Aces forward NaLyssa Smith recently had a chat with The Blast and shared a little insight into the Aces locker room and why it’s an “easy” place to be.
“I think it’s a family environment. I think sometimes you forget you’re at work just because it’s so comfortable for everyone,” Smith told The Blast exclusively during a Panini America event at WNBA All-Star Weekend. “I think it’s an easy place to be at, a winning culture, just everybody on the same page about one goal and that’s just to win. So, I think it’s a good environment.”
During the chat, Smith also shared which teammate has helped her “grow” her game the most.
“Since I got here, even before I got here, A’ja [Wilson] was always the first person to help me grow my game,” she said. “I think she’s always in my corner and always encouraging me, just to be the best version of myself. So I’ll definitely say that’s someone that I lean on a lot.”
Aces forward Steph Talbot was recently named to the 2026 Australia World Cup Team, making this her third World Cup appearance.
Talbot is a three-time Olympian and two-time FIBA World Cup medalist, and was named to the 2022 FIBA World Cup All-Star Five and 2013 FIBA U19 World Cup All-Star Five.
She has helped Australia claim gold medals multiple times, as well as silver and bronze medals.
The FIBA World Cup takes place September 4-13, 2026 in Berlin.
The Aces have one more home game this week, facing the New York Liberty on Thursday night. Thursday’s game will celebrate Legacy Night — Utah Starzz.
Then they hit the road for five games. First up, the Chicago Sky on Saturday, Aug. 1. On Monday, August 3, they play Atlanta Dream in Atlanta, and then they are off to Indianapolis to play the Indiana Fever on Thursday, Aug. 6. On Saturday, Aug. 8 they’ll be facing the Minnesota Lynx in Minnesota, and then one more stop in Brooklyn to play the New York Liberty on Sunday, Aug. 9 before heading back home for five home games from August 11 through the 20th.
