The 38-year-old turned a discussion about an opposing player into a funny moment about his own changing physique. He has been losing weight since retiring in March 2024.
Jason Kelce revealed in June 2024 that losing his first 20 pounds made his back and knees feel way better. He also retired from the NFL in March 2024.

During the October 11 broadcast of the Philadelphia Eagles’ game against the Jacksonville Jaguars, Jason praised Jacksonville’s emergency long snapper, DaVon Hamilton. Hamilton reportedly stepped in after starter Ross Matiscik suffered a shoulder injury in the first quarter.
“I love it from the big fella,” Jason said while discussing Hamilton’s performance. He explained that looking between his legs to long snap became difficult when he reached around 300 pounds. He also praised Hamilton for stepping in during an emergency and helping his team. “Way to go, DaVon Hamilton. I love it,” he added.
Jason’s broadcast partner, former NFL quarterback Kurt Warner, jokingly said, “You’ve never been fat.” “You’re just husky, ” he added. Jason responded by bringing up the Body Mass Index.
“If you look at the BMI, I think I’m technically obese. Morbidly,” Jason joked. The former Philadelphia Eagles player’s changing weight has been a talking point since he retired after 13 NFL seasons in March 2024, per US Magazine.
Jason admitted that losing weight had brought an unexpected downside. During a conversation with his brother, Travis Kelce, on the “New Heights” podcast, Jason said that “Nobody liked me until I became fat. And as I get skinnier, people hate me more and more.”
The NFL player’s brother agreed that heavier children could become the most enjoyable to people because of their humor. Jason agreed with him, saying, “That’s true, fat people are just better.” Travis then joked that Jason had not reached his full potential on the football field until he gained weight.
In May 2025, the 38-year-old player told Us Weekly that he had lost approximately 25 pounds since retiring. He also said that “I don’t really want to get below 250.” He reportedly said 250 to 265 pounds was his preferred range.
The father of four eventually shared the positive experience he had from losing weight. “My back already feels better. My knees already feel better,” he said. The Blast shared that he revealed becoming lighter could help him play with his children more comfortably.

The Super Bowl champion talked about how difficult adjusting to “normal” life has been for him and his family. He shared that making appearances in public as a normal person isn’t easy. He also explained that going out with his wife and children now feels different from how it did before his retirement.
“In a lot of ways, going out into public is much different for not just me but my wife, my whole family,” Jason said. He added that the family still tries to maintain a normal life, even as doing so becomes harder. “We’re finding ways to get it done,” he added.
Jason continued building his media career through television appearances and sports broadcasting. He joined ESPN’s “Monday Night Countdown” crew after retirement and appeared in episodes of “Saturday Night Live” and “Abbott Elementary.” In January 2025, he also hosted his own late-night sports talk show, “They Call It Late Night with Jason Kelce.”

On November 26, 2025, The Blast reported that the NFL player gained a few pounds after a family trip to Disney World. He then decided to undertake a 48-hour fast with fellow retired football player Marcus Spears.
“Marcus Spears and I agreed to do a fast,” Jason told his brother on the “New Heights” podcast. He joked that “This is what happens when you retire. You f-cking do stupid sh-t like this, and I agreed to do it.” He also made clear that he intended to enjoy Thanksgiving food once the fast ended.
Jason explained that the Disney trip involved eating “egg rolls” and other foods alongside Dole Whip, the popular frozen dessert. He also recalled eating prime rib and ice cream during a stop in Wisconsin. After noticing the number on the scale rising, he said he felt “bad about myself” and decided to fast.

Jason co-hosts the “New Heights” podcast with Travis, who is engaged to pop star Swift. The Blast noted in December 2025 that the show broke streaming records with over 24 million YouTube views after Swift appeared on an episode.
The father of four said he keeps business out of his personal interactions with his brother’s fiancée. “We’ve tried to keep a lot of that out of the relationship,” he said. “I just enjoy her being my brother’s soon-to-be wife, and aunt to my kids, and we try to leave that relationship where it should be.” He also expressed admiration for her work ethic and business moves.
During an appearance on Shaquille O’Neal’s “The Big Podcast,” Jason shared that Travis had to move into a gated community for security reasons. “We’ve always been big in the football world, Travis especially,” he explained. “The Taylor world and the pop culture world, that’s a whole different level. It’s a new demographic that wasn’t there before,” Jason admitted.
