Over the past few years, you’ve been releasing singles like “Raw” and “Down.” What has this chapter of your music career taught you about yourself as an artist?
Victoria: This independent era has taught me that I’m capable of doing so much more than I ever thought. When you’re independent, there are a lot of pros — obviously, there’s creative freedom — but it’s also really difficult. It’s hard not to have that big infrastructure, funding, and resources behind you.
When I was signed to a label many years ago, so many decisions were made for me that I didn’t even know about. Now, being independent, I’m involved in every single decision and every aspect of the creative process.
I think I’ve shown myself that I’m resilient and that I can really handle it all. It’s helped me learn to trust myself and to work harder than I knew I could.
