Retired professional boxer Mike Tyson has known Sean “Diddy” Combs for decades, previously stating they first connected in the late ’80s before the rapper rose in the music industry.

Throughout the years, the two attended high-profile events and hosted parties together. Even after Diddy’s arrest, Tyson expressed support for his friend and wished him the best.

In an October 8 episode of SiriusXM’s “Radio Andy,” host Andy Cohen asked Tyson about the status of their relationship amid Diddy’s incarceration. “I’m friendly with Puff,” Tyson said, adding that he once spoke with the rapper on the phone.

The former boxer said Diddy asked for a favor and wanted him to deliver a letter to President Donald Trump, which he did. “I did what he told me to do,” Tyson told Cohen.

During the conversation, Tyson also weighed in on Combs’ case, saying that he was “surprised” at the effort authorities put in to secure a conviction.

“They used a 110-year-old rule to get him. That case 110 years ago, but they used it to get him. Can you imagine that? They took a 110-year-old case to get him a couple of months, a couple of years ago,” Tyson said.

Diddy is serving a sentence for two counts of transportation for the purposes of prostitution, which violates the Mann Act, the federal law Tyson referred to.

The Mann Act, passed in 1910, was originally intended to halt human trafficking and forced prostitution.

Diddy Reached Out To President Donald Trump

Diddy was convicted in July 2025 and was sentenced in October to 50 months in prison, in addition to five years of supervised release and a fine of $500,000.

It’s not clear when Tyson sent Diddy’s letter to the president, but shortly after the conviction, news outlets reported that the rapper’s lawyers reached out to Trump, seeking a potential presidential pardon, as previously reported by The Blast.

During a press conference in October 2025, Trump confirmed receiving a letter from Diddy, though his comments suggested he was unlikely to grant the rapper’s appeal.

In a January interview, President Trump confirmed to The New York Times that he was not going to entertain Diddy’s pardon request.

In prior statements, Trump shared his reasons, stating that he and Diddy were “friendly” and “got along” in the past but noted they were not good friends. However, the relationship turned sour when he first ran for office. “He was very hostile,” he said of the rapper.

Trump added he doesn’t want his opinion of Diddy to cloud his judgment. “When you knew someone, and you were fine, and then you run for office, and he made some terrible statement… So I don’t know, it’s more difficult… I’m being honest, it makes it more difficult to do,” he said of the pardon request.

Throughout the years, the rapper has criticized Trump and stated that men like him “need to be banished.” He also claimed Trump would start a “race war.”

Diddy’s projected release date has changed several times since he was sentenced. He reportedly participates in a rehabilitation program that qualifies him for sentence reduction. However, he has also had disciplinary issues that add to his sentence.

At the end of September, footage showed the rapper using a contraband cell phone in prison, and an NBC News report detailed the luxuries that he was afforded. As a result, Diddy was reportedly sent to solitary confinement, and his release date was pushed back.

The previously listed date of January 21, 2028, has now been changed to March 2, 2028, as reported by PEOPLE.
