So, here we are again—another reboot climbing outta the cinematic abyss, and this time it’s none other than Cliffhanger, that adrenaline-soaked ’93 flick you half-remember while sweating through a Rocky Mountain nightmare. Row K Entertainment just snagged U.S. rights in a deal that reportedly makes your average Hollywood salary look like pocket change, setting the stage for a 2026 wide release. Now, if the stars have anything to say (and, trust me, with Jupiter doing its lucky tango in Aries, you can bet they do), this reboot might just shoot higher than the peaks it’s set in. Picture this: Pierce Brosnan as Ray Cooper—a chill mountain chalet owner who suddenly finds himself and his daughter kidnapped in the colossal Dolomites. Enter Lily James as Naomi, the older daughter wrestling with her own past traumas, who now has to face her fears head-on to rescue her family. Director Jaume Collet-Serra, armed with a script from an intriguingly diverse writer quartet, aims to inject fresh blood into this snowy saga. The original made a cool $255 million worldwide; can this one, riding the cosmic waves of 2026’s astrological alignments, top that? Or will it be another cinematic slip on the climbing rope? Hang tight—we’re about to find out. LEARN MORE

Row K Entertainment has nabbed the U.S. rights to the long-awaited Cliffhanger reboot that stars Pierce Brosnan and Lily James.

The eight-figure deal coming out of the Toronto Film Festival calls for a wide release for director Jaume Collet-Serra’s fresh take on Sylvester Stallone’s 1993 action flick, now slated for a wide theatrical release in 2026.

The project, which was shot in Austria and is now in post-production, centers on mountaineer Ray Cooper (Brosnan), who runs a chalet with his daughter in the Dolomites, a mountain range in Italy. When the pair is kidnapped, older daughter Naomi (James), who is still dealing with trauma from a previous climbing incident, must overcome her past to save her family.

Collet-Serra directed Cliffhanger from a script written by Ana Lily Amirpour, Sasha Penn, Mark Bianculli and Melanie Toast. Row K, the theatrical distribution arm of Media Capital Technologies that launched in August 2025, earlier acquired out of TIFF Gus Van Sant’s Dead Man’s Wire, starring Bill Skarsgard, Dacre Montgomery, Cary Elwes, Myha’la, Colman Domingo and Al Pacino; and Tom Dean and Mac Eldridge’s Charlie Harper, starring Nick Robinson and Emilia Jones.

“Cliffhanger is an exciting addition to Row K’s growing slate and a clear example of the kind of event-level films we are bringing to the marketplace,” MCT principals and Row K co-chairman Christopher Woodrow and Raj Singh said in a statement.

The original Cliffhanger hit theaters in May 1993 from TriStar Pictures and collected $255 million at the global box office. Stallone starred for director Renny Harlin as a mountain climber enlisted to help track down suitcases full of stolen cash in the Rocky Mountains.

Producers of the reimagined Cliffhanger movie include Lars Sylvest, Joe Neurauter, Thorsten Schumacher, Neal Moritz and Toby Jaffe. The acquisition deal was negotiated for the filmmakers by CAA Media Finance, which is representing domestic rights. Rocket Science is handling international sales.
